Blane Chapter 1: Confessions to a Fellow Student

Creative Created on 5-6-08 Views(25) Story Rating G

Blane Adams was your average teenage jock. He played football in the fall and baseball in the winter. He had a girlfriend, and was the most popular kid in his high school. But there was something about him that he wasn’t as conforming as everyone else. He had a secret that he had never, ever told anyone; not his girlfriend, not his even his best friend.

There was one person, however, that he did want to tell. He was exactly friend with this person, but he was the only person that Blane knew for a fact was going through the same thing he was. This person was Dale Grant. Dale was a popular guy, not in the whole school, but within the clique that he was a part of.

Dale was a very open person, and didn’t care who learned his private business, but Blane was the exact opposite of this. Blane was a very private person, who kept his private life, private. One day, Blane decided that he had had enough of keeping his secret. He just had to tell someone that he was...gay. The only person he knew that was gay in the whole school was Dale Grant. He only knew this because Dale was the type to announce it to everyone. He made sure that the whole knew he was gay.

At first, Blane was reluctant to tell Dale, because he didn’t want Dale to vocalize his sexuality the way Dale did his own. But Blane was about to explode with frustration; he just had to tell someone before the frustration and the angst became too much fro him to handle. One day, after school, Blane saw Dale standing in the parking lot, next to his car, with a bunch of his friends. Blane built up the courage to go over and talk to him. He cut through a few of Dale’s friends just to get to him.

“Hey Dale, can we talk for a second?” asked Blane

“What does Blane Adams, want with a little ole queen like me?” asked Dale

“Can we just talk?” asked Blane

“We’re talking right now.” said Dale

“No, I need to talk to you in private.” said Blane

“Oh, excuse me everyone, Mary here would like to talk to me in private.” said Dale as he moved closer to Blane “Where shall we go?” asked Dale

“Can we go talk in my car, it’s only a few feet away.” said Blane

“Blane, what is so important that we need to go into your car for you to tell me?” asked Dale

“It’s just really private, and I don’t want anyone to hear.” answered Blane

Dale followed Blane to his 2008 dark blue Nissan Altima. They got in and there was an awkward silence between them for about five minutes. Blane turned the car on, tuned to the local rock station, and turned up the volume exceptionally loud.

“Blane; do you mind turning that down? I can’t even hear myself think.” said Dale

“Sure, sorry.” said Blane

“So, are we going to get to what you wanted to tell me before first period starts…tomorrow morning!” said Dale sarcastically.

“Yeah, sorry; this is just supper hard for me.” said Blane

“Well what is it?” asked Dale

“I’m gay” said Blane

“So what are you telling me for?” asked Dale

“’Cause I thought that you would understand.” said Blane

“I do understand, I just don’t understand why you’re telling me.” said Dale

“Because I thought maybe you could give me some advice on how to handle it.” said Blane

“Why? Because I’m gay?” asked Dale

“Well, yeah.” said Blane

“I can’t tell you how to handle it. Everyone handles it differently. How you handle it is up to you.” said Dale

“Well that’s no help.” said Blane

“I’m sorry, but my way of handling my fag-ness may not work for you.” said Dale

“I understand.” said Blane

“So, is that it.” said Dale

“You can’t tell anyone.” said Blane

“Why would I tell anyone?” asked Dale

“Come one Dale, I’ve seen how you flaunt your sexuality around the school. I don’t want you to do that with mine.” said Blane

“Listen, Adams; the only reason I do that is because it’s mine to what I want with. I would never want anyone to flaunt my fag-ness around the school, so I wouldn’t do that to anyone either.” said Dale

‘Thanks Dale.” said Blane

“For what, I didn’t help you at all.” said Dale

“Yeah you did. You helped me see that the only one that can help me get through this is myself. No one’s going to help me find my way through this, that’s up to me.” said Dale

“See, you are already light years ahead of me. It took me a long time to figure that out for myself.” said Dale

“But you helped me.”

“No I didn’t, I just gave you a little nudge.” said Dale

“Ha, funny…hey, listen, do you think that we could maybe get together again sometime, just to talk. I really miss having someone to talk to.” said Blane

“Adams, did you just ask me out?” asked Dale

“Well, I guess if you want to think of it like that, but I just want to talk, you know. Nothing romantic or anything.” said Blane

“Sure, why not. It’s not everyday that the most popular guy in the whole school asks you out.” said Dale

muse4apoem His name is suitable. I mean after all he holds secrets. It sorta reminds me of a vampire name. Even in his last name which is way cool! I think this is a wonderful story! It's kinda odd how Blane is a jock though.
