Drama Created on 3-30-08 Views(41) Story Rating G

It was time; the day was finally here. The day that they had been dreading ever since they had started their relationship was here. The First day of school is always the easiest, for everybody else; for them, it was nerve racking. At the Wallace house, Luke was so nervous, he couldn’t even get dressed. Lisa might have been even more nervous than the young couple. She was just so worried that some kid that was so scared of their relationship would take matters into their own hand and possibly hurt Luke and Ken.

After they had left for school, she called up Jenny for advice on how to handle her worries or to maybe see if any of her worries had any merit. Jenny told Lisa that her worries were totally normal and that she had to trust that the boys are able to take care of themselves if, God forbid, it did come to that. Meanwhile, Luke offered Kira a ride to school, but her new found boyfriend, who was a senior, was going to give her a ride. So they arrived at the school, with about half an hour left until the first bell was to ring. When they arrived, they sat into the car for a few minutes, just to collect themselves.

“Are you ready to do this?” asked Luke

“Yeah, I think I am.” answered Ken

Ken had a lot more to loose than Luke did. Luke just moved to town at the start of the summer. Ken’s lived here since he was three, he could loose all of his friends. But the only thing that comforted him in knowing that was that he also knew that no matter what, he had Luke. They agreed to not hold hands until Ken told all of his friends that he was gay and going out with Luke, who was a total stranger to them.

So they walked in to the school, terrified to shreds on how people would react. All they wanted to do was hold each other, but they each agreed that it would be better if they waited until all of Ken’s friends knew. Lucky for Ken that all of his friends hung out all together at the same time, so he only really had to say “I’m gay” once. They got as far as Ken’s friends hangout table in the commons area.

For Luke, it was really hard to believe that Ken was part of the popular crowd. Not because he didn’t think that Ken was popular material. It was because the popular crowd is usually full of shallow assholes, and he didn’t think that Ken would ever associate with such a crowd, just to be popular. They walked up to a very good looking crowd, in Luke’s opinion, but none as cute as his boyfriend.

“Hey guys.” said Ken

“Hey what’s up Kenny boy? How was your summer?” asked Ken’s friend Brian Hayes.

“It was interesting, but some good came out of it.” said Ken then glanced at Luke with a smile.

“Who’s the hottie next to you, huh?” asked ken’s friend Kayla Ryan.

“Oh this is Luke Wallace, he just moved into my neighborhood at the start of the summer. Luke, this is Brian, Kayla, Jeremy, Amber, Rob, and Kyle.”

“Hey” said Luke to everyone as he shook their hands.

“Welcome to Gary High, Luke” said Kyle

“Kyle’s the quarterback and captain of the football team.” said Ken “Listen guys there’s something kind of important, and super personal that I need to talk with you guys about.”

“Sure, what’s is it?” asked Amber

“Well, it’s…” started Ken

“Wait, I mean no offense Luke, but if this really is personal should he be hear, you barely know him.” Rob

“No, it’s okay. Luke can stay.” said Ken

“Okay, if you say so.” said Rob

“Over the summer, I met someone who has changed my life forever, and I really want to be with them. I think I love them, but in order to be with them, there’s something that you guys have got to know.”

“Aww, Ken found Love.” said Kayla

“Is she hot?” asked Kyle.

“Definitely, but there’s something else.” said Ken

“What” asked Brian

“Just say it Ken, get it over with.” said Luke

“Hey man, give him some time can’t you see it’s difficult for him. See he shouldn’t be here Ken.” said Brian, who was the closest to Ken

“No, Luke’s right. I’m gay”

“What? How can you be gay?” asked Brian

“Ha, Ha, Ken’s a faggot!” Laughed Jeremy; right then Luke wanted to punch his face in, but Ken stopped him.

“It’s okay Luke, he’s entitled to his opinion.” said Ken

“I’m not gonna let him talk to you like that Ken.” said Luke in anger

“I can’t believe this. You just said that you had a girlfriend.” said Rob

“No I said that I met someone that I fell in love with, and that person is Luke.”

“This guy?” asked Kayla

“Yeah this guy, Kayla” said Ken

“Look, I know this is a lot for you guys to handle, but all Ken is looking for is your acceptance. I mean, you’re his friends, he’s still the same guy he always was, just know you know he’s gay. But you should also know that I love him, and if you guys should decide to exile him, I’ll be the one to take care of him.” said Luke

“Of course we won’t reject him, or at least I won’t. Ken’s been my friend since the second grade. We’re like brothers, and if being gay is who you are, than I accept it, and f Luke is who you love and he loves you back, I’m happy for you.” said Brian

“I don’t know man, I mean, people might think we’re gay.” said Jeremy

“They would be wrong, wouldn’t they” said Luke

“Yeah” responded Jeremy

“Than what’s your point” said Luke

“Luke, you don’t get it. Being popular in this school is based on reputation. It doesn’t have anything to do with looks or actions. It has to do with how people perceive you to be, and if they think that Jeremy and everyone else is gay, than they’ll rip them of their popularity, and appoint new school royalty.” said Ken “So if you guys do want to kick me out of the group, I understand, I still have Luke, and if you guys don’t want me, than he’s all I’ll ever need.”

“I’m still your friend Ken, that won’t change; right guys” said Brian and then he looked to the others who weren’t exactly agreeing. “Come on guys.”

“It’s okay Brian, they don’t want to ruin their reputation, and neither should you. Me and Luke will just have to be on our own.” said Ken as he held Luke’s hand.

“No, it’s not. My reputation is not more important than my oldest friend.” he said then looked to the others. “I would’ve expected a lot more from you guys, but them again, that was stupid of me to think highly of popularity.”

So, the three of them walked off together, Luke and Ken holding hands, to another table in the commons. Of course they got some looks and stares, especially from staff and faculty. Luke was really impressed with Brian that he was so accepting, he had expected him to flip out, but he didn’t and Luke really respected that.

“Thank you so much for supporting me on this, Brian.” said Ken

“Yeah, I think that that’s so great.” said Luke still gripping Ken’s hand.

“I just don’t think that your popularity should come before friends.”
