Daily Lane Ch.2: The Midnight Strangler pt.3 (End of Chapter)
|
It took a few more days, but Rachel eventually snapped out of her shock. She woke up alone with no one in here room. But it looked like it was the middle of the night so she didn’t expect anyone to be there. She pressed the nurse’s button, it took a while for someone to get there, but eventually they did.
Rachel never liked anyone to fuss over her when she was hurt, so when she woke up she was very irritable, because you know mothers, always fussing over their children. Later, after her mother left, Luke, Ken and Tim showed up. She was glad to see them. She never really had a group of friends that she could count on, so when she saw them, it really cheered her up. After they all said their hellos, Ken and Tim went to go get sodas, and Luke was left to talk to Rachel.
“So Rachel, what did you see to make yourself go into shock like that?” asked Luke
Rachel was very reluctant to tell Luke the truth. One, she barely knew him; two, she didn’t want George to find out that she squealed and then come after her. So, she didn’t know what to do. So she finally decided on telling him that she didn’t remember.
“I don’t remember. All I remember is starting to walk home, and then after that my mind goes blank.”
“Well, you shouldn’t push yourself. Your mind shut it out for a reason. If you remember what you saw you might go into shock again.”
She felt bad lying to Luke. Yeah he had treated her kind of badly, but he’s been really nice to her since. He’s been trying to include her in the stuff that he does with Ken. She didn’t think that Ken was too happy about that, but she was still glad to be included.
Her visit from her friends went well, and she was feeling very good about maybe leaving the hospital very soon. But then she got a visit from someone she wasn’t expecting, Trent George.
Her heart started to race, and she began to sweat. She remembered this feeling from the last time that she saw Mr. George. It wasn’t a feeling that she liked. She was extremely terrified.
He slowly closed the door behind him as he made his way very sluggishly towards her bed. He had an evil grin splattered across his face. She started to back up into her bed. He came closer and closer.
“Mr. George, what are you doing here?” asked Rachel in a shaky voice.
“I know that you saw me little girl. I’m here to make sure that you don’t go shootin’ off that little fuckin’ mouth of yours.”
“Wait, no; Mr. George I would never shoot my mouth off, honest.” pleaded Rachel.
“Yeah, you’re sayin’ that so I won’t kill you, ha little girl,” he put his gloved hands around her neck and gently squeezed, “Do you want me to kill you, just for bein’ a smart ass?”
Rachel couldn’t speak; she couldn’t do anything except for choke. She felt paralyzed and helpless. She wanted to scream but didn’t have the energy. She was becoming light headed, and a little queasy. She didn’t want to die, but there was nothing that she could do. His hands were getting tighter and tighter. It was getting harder and harder to breath. He was getting more and more pleasure, the more and more out of it that she was getting. He squeezed tighter and tighter until she had no more life left in her.
That morning at 12:08 am, Rachel Denise Thomas died of strangulation. It’s not an easy thing to loose a child; in fact it’s the exact opposite. It’s the hardest thing in the world to have to burry your child, and it wasn’t any easier for Judy and Frank Thomas. The call at one o’clock in the morning from the hospital telling you that your eldest child has been murdered and that you must go and identify their body; it tore Judy Thomas into pieces.
Tim Snider didn’t feel that it was his place to go to the funeral. He felt that he would be unwelcome. He felt that if he had walked her home she would have avoided whatever she saw that landed her into the hospital. Judy didn’t blame any of this on Tim. Judy was a very fair person; she didn’t blame her daughter’s death on anyone, not even herself, which is what most parents who loose a child do. Then one day, Luke was watching the local news and there was a story about young girls in the area being strangled. They even threw in Rachel’s murder into the story by saying that maybe her death is linked to these serial murders going on in their city.
There have been six deaths so far, six girls. They have all been around the same age; ages sixteen to eighteen. Rachel fit right into that category. But then Luke started to think. What if what Rachel saw was linked to her murder and these other serial murders? What if the serial killer is living right on Daily Lane?
