The Road to Happiness; The Secret pt. III

Drama Created on 2-6-08 Views(38) Story Rating G

The telephone rang. It was their dad. The schools sent police officers to the house because they had been missing too much school. He told them that he kicked Victor out, and Ashley went with him. They asked where he might be and he told them that he didn’t know. He gave the police Lacy’s address.

Ben called Lacy. She told the police that he was staying with Ben in Malibu, California. She even gave them the address. Ben was worried that the Malibu police might show up, and for good cause. They showed up two days later.

“Open up the door, Malibu police.” Ben opened the door.

“What can I do for you officers?” asked Ben.

“We’re looking for one Victor Hansen. Is he here?”

“Sure come right in officers.”

“Thank you sir.”

“Vic!” yelled Ben.

Victor came running down the stairs, and then he saw the officers.

“Yeah Ben…oh.”

“These policemen are looking for you.”

“Can we talk Victor?” asked one officer.

“Sure, over here on the couch.” Victor directed them. They sat.

“The police in Harris County, Utah say that you haven’t been to school in weeks. Can you explain?” asked the officer.

“My dad kicked me out.”

“Why?”

“I told him I was gay.”

“Oh, well, that doesn’t excuse you not going to school.”

“I’m staying with my brother in another state. How am I supposed to go to school?”

“Couldn’t you have stayed at a friend’s house?”

“I tried that, but none of my friends’ parents would let me stay at their house. This was my last option.”

“You could’ve notified the school, and maybe gotten assignments.”

“There are two problems with that officer. One; it was during Thanksgiving break, the school was unreachable. Two; officer, this is a permanent situation.”

“Well, you still need to go to school. It’s the law. So I suggest, if you are going to stay down here, you withdraw from your school in Utah, and enroll in a school here in Malibu.”

“Okay, I’ll do that.”

“Your brother, will also need to obtain full custody of you. Can you do that?”

“Yes I can officer.” said Ben.

“Okay. I’m going to come back and check on you in a few weeks to make sure all of this is taken care of.”

“Okay, thank you officer.” said Ben.

“We’ll see you now.” Ben led them to the door, and then closed it.

“We are going back to Harris tomorrow to withdraw you guys from your schools.” said Ben.

“Okay.” said Victor.

“Get some sleep.” said Ben.

“Okay.” He went upstairs to sleep.

The next morning; Ben, Victor, and Ashley had an early breakfast, packed some clothes, and then were off to Harris. Before Ben went to the house, he dropped Victor off at Lacy’s. He didn’t want them to fight. Victor knocked on the door when he got there. She opened the door.

“OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!” she jumped to give him a hug. “Victor, what are you doing here?”

“I came to withdraw from school.”

“Oh my God, so this is it. You’re leaving forever?”

“Yeah, I wish I didn’t have to, but my dad has given me no choice.”

“I just came to say goodbye for good.”

“Oh my gosh. I’m gonna cry, you can’t leave, stay.”

“I can’t, I have no wear to stay down here.”

“Okay” Just then Ben pulled up, and then walked up to the two.

“Dad has agreed to withdraw you and your sister from school, so we need to go now. He’s also agreed to sign over custody of you and your sister over to me. So we’ll be stopping at the courthouse, oh, hi Lacy.” said Ben

“Hi Ben” she said in an embarrassed voice. She’s has a crush on Ben since the seventh grade.

“Bye Lucy.” said Victor as he gave her a hug.

“Bye Victor, keep writing to me okay.”

“You know I will.”

Victor got back into the SUV and they were off; first to the school, then to the courthouse. They reached the school about ten minutes before their father did. They waited in the office for him to get there.

When he got there they immediately asked for the withdrawal forms, filled them out, and signed them. After, when they finished, they went immediately to the courthouse to see about the custody of Victor and Ashley. They said that it would take a few days to go through paper work. They would also have to see a judge in like a hearing to explain why they want to do this, and he has to decide if it is right and if Ben is qualified to raise his siblings.

So; Ben, Victor and Ashley rented some motel rooms (one for each of them) and stayed until it was time for the hearing. Eric and Lacy showed up to the hearing to support Victor. It was a long hearing; the judge had a lot of questions for Victor and Ben. He even asked Eric and Lacy questions. In the end, the judge let both Victor and Ashley stay with Ben. He ruled that their dad was emotionally unpredictable and it wasn’t a good environment for the children.

After the hearing, Victor and Ashley made some trips to their friends’ houses and spent a few minutes at each house saying goodbye to their friends. Afterwards it was all road. Victor later told Ben that that was the best road trip he had ever had.

It was the road trip to freedom. He would have freedom to be who he is without any persecution. When they got back it was time for the siblings to enroll into the nearest school. Victor would enroll at Gibson High School, and Ashley would enroll at Harrison Junior High School. It was the perfect timing; it was right at the start of the second semester. They were both very excited for their first day at their new schools.

Gibson High School was nothing like Victor’s old school. It was a rich school as Victor might have called it. It had the best facilities, the best books, and the best computers. He loved it there at his new school. He had even made a few friends on the very first day.

Their names were Jason, Kevin, Kim, and Bradley. They had all heard about the new student from the guidance counselor. She had asked them to show Victor around the school, they were usually the group to do this with the new kids. Usually, though, the new kids found their group of friends to hang out with, but the Gibson High welcoming committee loved Victor so much, that they invited him to join their group of friends, and he happily excepted because he quite enjoyed them as well.

“There’s something I must tell you though, before you accept me as one of your own.” said Victor

“What?” asked Kevin, who was sort of the leader of the group.

“I’m gay.”

“So; so are Jason and Bradley. In fact they used to be boyfriends, but now their just friends. We totally accept you.” said Kevin.

“Really?” said Victor.

“Honey, you’re in Malibu. Weirdness and abnormality comes with the territory.” said Jason.

“I think I’m gonna really like it here.” said Victor

So Victor stayed in Malibu for the rest of his high school years, and so did Ashley. Victor went on to graduate from UCLA with a master’s degree in English. While he was at UCLA he met who would be his lifetime partner. His name was Dillon Hayes, and he was also from Malibu. Victor went on to become a respected 12th grade English teacher at Gibson High School, then to become a college professor at CSUN. He and Dillon had a commitment ceremony two years after he started working at CSUN. Then they adopted two children; a baby boy who had no name on record, so they had the privilege to name him. Victor insisted on naming him Eric Benjamin, and they gave him Dillon’s last name; Hayes. They also adopted a girl, her name is Natalie. They now live happily in Northridge, California.

muse4apoem nice story. I feel bad for there mom. That just really shows though. There environment was falling apart around them. So it was the best thing they moved away. It would have been kinda cool. If you put the trial in.
