The fight for survival!!
|
The year is 956 AD and the People of England have been struggling to survive from the constant onslaught of Dragons which have been destroying villages, burning fields and taking hundreds of lives at a time. The last of the survivors have taken refuge in the last free standing building in Yorkshire, an enormous castle with hundreds of underground passages.
The leader of the survivors was Sir William Duff, a knight from the first group of people to encounter the Dragons and sadly the only survivor from the group. He leads a group of survivors, a mix of peasants and royalty, and by his side the great wizard (also known as the Wise One) who knows all about the fire-breathers and their evil ways. They have been searching for a way to defeat the Dragons and with the help of the wise one they have discovered a scroll showing the weakness of the dragons, but being it was written in an ancient language the Wise One had to spend some time to translate it. Meanwhile the others decided to fortify the castle for a Dragon invasion.
In what was once the capital city of England there is a huge pile of rubble out of which the Dragons have made their nest. The Dragons had their own way of leadership in which the males (which were much smaller and weaker than the females) stayed with the eggs while the females went hunting for life to destroy and to cause utter destruction. The Queen of the Dragons was as big as a castle, she was the colour of blood, the spines on her back were as hard as diamonds and her teeth were so sharp that not even the sharpest sword in all of England could cut as well as her teeth. Her flame that is a trade mark for all Dragons is an inferno of explosive gases which she stores in a sac on the side of her neck. Which if squeezed, releases the gases up her throat and with a spark from her teeth she makes a huge flame.
Back at the castle the Wise One translated the scroll and if it were translated in the form of English used today it may have looked like this:
“The Dragons have surrounded the castle and the tunnels have been dug deep enough for us to dig the room where the people shall be safe from the blast, I the wizard of the Celts have discovered the way to return the Dragons to their slumber up in the storm clouds. The spell that puts the Dragons to sleep is so powerful that any humans caught in it will be destroyed. This means that there is only one chance. Before you recite the spell I must warn you that the person who reads this spell aloud shall cause the destruction of anything within a mile radius. For this spell to work to its full potential it must be cast by a Master wizard who would risk his life for the rest of humanity. The spell which I entrust with the reader of this scroll is, “Assendeus Contrus Apprendei Demoneus!” For he who reads this I have entrusted with you with the Knowledge to defeat the Dragons and I wish you good fortune!”The Wise One put down the scroll and took a deep breath, he realized that these would be his final hours alive and he would have to use them well.
Meanwhile the men had finished digging the chamber of defence (this was already a well known defence against Dragons) and they began to put in beds for the people and enough supplies to last them a few months. William Duff was keeping the children calm by telling them stories about the adventures that he had experienced in the lands across the sea. The children were cheered up and filled with hope and even some of the adults who happened to be listening. The Wise One came in and whispered to Sir William what he had read. Sir William knew it had to be done but he still did not like it. The Wise One said goodbye to the children and left.
That evening the Wise One took the long path to the Dragons’ nest where he magically called out the Queen, she came out roaring and spitting flames, and then the rest of the Dragons followed. The Wise One took one last look at the Dragons and recited the incantation. One second all the dragons looked puzzled, then there was a bright light… and then there were none.
THEEND.
