“Yeah right, kid. Your not that lucky.“

Bridget held up Pookie right in front of Andrew’s face and said, “Your mean, yes you are.” She said through Pookie to Andrew.

“Love you to, sis.” Andrew replied.

They walked to the main park of their small North New York town and laid a blue and white plaid blanket under a shaded tree.

When Andrew turned to hand each of them a colored popsicle, Pookie decided to jump up and have a lick of Bridget’s. Nick handed her his just-opened popsicle. “Here, I’ll get another one.”

“Thanks.”

“Get me one, too, please.” Madison said and Nick turned to her.

“Andrew just gave you one.” He said and eyed her suspiciously.

Madison’s innocent eyes widened. “No, he didn’t.” But obviously he did. Her lips weren’t purple when they sat down. Nick rolled his eyes and handed her one and then took one for himself.

“Aww. Pookie, you’re so cute!” Bridget squeaked and cuddled her cheek against the dogs’. Nick smiled at the affectionate action and felt his heart beat a bump faster.

He sighed and they started their picnic.


When they were done. The boys were left to do the clean up while the girls got to play with Pookie. “That’s not fair, how come the boys gets to clean up? There’s more of you girls.” Andrew complained.

“Because! That’s just one of the girl rules.” Carly fought back.

“Agh! What is it with this ‘girl rules’. I really want to see that rule book.”

“It’s not written down, silly.”

“Yeah, because you women just make it up as you go along.”

“We do not! You take that back you…you…you ass!” Carly giggled when Andrew took her of her feet and backed her up against a tree trunk.

They started talking really quietly then they kissed.

Madison’s face scrunched up and she said, “Yucky.” Nick and Bridget laughed.

(For all you girls, you people know that there is such a thing as a ‘Girl Rules’. What girl doesn’t? (: )

“Okay, break it up, kids-- Madison-- is present.” Bridget said and Andrew and Carly broke up and without another word, Andrew turned to Nick, “Okay, let’s clean up, I guess.”

Nick shrugged and they went to work while Carly gave Bridget the thumbs up and a wink.

A few minuets later, Nick turned to look at Bridget when she squeaked. Pookie was licking her ankle with that little pink tongue of his.

“Okay, we’re done. Thanks for helping out.” Andrew said and sat down on the blanket and laid down, hands behind his head. “So we need to talk, come sit next to me.”

Uh-oh. The brother-to-boyfriend talk. But in this case since they, meaning Nick and Bridget, weren’t a couple yet, it was just ‘the talk’.

Nick did as he was told and sat down against a tree trunk. He bent his left leg so the feet pointed right and lifted his right leg. He swung his right arm over his right knee and used the other hand to play with the corner of the blanket.

“What’s up?” he said.

“Well, Bridget. What are you doing?” “What do you mean what am I doing?” “With her? What are you trying to prove?” “What? Nothing!” “Come on, we all know what kind of guy you are.”

“What do you mean ‘what kind of guy’? What kind of guy am I?” Nick asked him.

“The one who has a new girl in his bed every day. That kind of guy.” Andrew replied.

Nick looked at him with hard eyes. “That changed.”

“That’s what they all say.” Andrew sat up and looked at him with the same emotion.

“When you met Carly, Isn’t that what YOU said?”
