The Reunion, Part One

Ceri wasn't quite sure what was going through her mind as she got on the bus to Tulsa from Tennelina. Hell, she wasn't even sure how she was going to get to him. All she knew was she HAD to see him, so she was going to. Cari didn't think he even knew she was coming, but she didn't care. It wasn't like she could of gotten a hold of him anyways. All she had were his cellphone numbers, which both were turned off. He never bothered to give Ceri his new number because he knew the likelihood of her calling him was next to none due to no long distance service.
As trees and cars pass by on the road, the bus drove through Vaville, stopping to let a few people off and on, finally heading down the highway towards the final destination. Thankfully the bus was rather empty so Ceri didn't need to share her seat. She didn't want to be bothered anyways while she fantasized of HIM. Memories mostly, of the nights they shared on an old beat up couch, rarely sleeping. Days of finding new places to christian in that tiny apartment while Ceri's roommate had the decency to stay away hours at a time. It took hours, sometimes 3, mostly 4 to satisfy the hunger they felt for each other. They were never fully satisfied. Often musing afterwards, in a glow of sweaty orgasmic proportions that they should have done it sooner. They had known each other countless years and were just getting accquainted" with each other and this was surely some way to do so. Ceri smiled in spite of herself and looked around. The bus was quiet and rightly so, there were 5 people on besides her. Guess no one ever bothers to come so far north on the Greyhound. Tulsa is a 14 hour drive almost from Tennelina, and probably more on a bus that makes quite a few stops in between.
She awoke to hear the bus driver say over the intercom, "Greyhound Station 062, Tulsa" and Ceri knew she was there. Her heart did some strange flip-flops and her stomach felt a little queasy. It had been over a year since Ceri last saw him, more recently if you count pictures. Hell, the last time she held him in her arms was at the train station in Houston. Now here she was, alone and standing in the terminal of Tulsa, OK. Since Rowan didn't know she was coming, Ceri grabbed one of the cabs in the parking lot waiting, told them where to take her, the Denny's off of Toplin Ave. Ceri sat back in the mock leather seats and watched everything pass by as they were heading through the roads of downtown Tulsa. If she thought the feeling would go away once she got closer, she was wrong. She actually felt sicker. The only other time Ceri felt this way was when she first saw him in the restaurant. She could barely look at Rowan, much less talk. He was even more attractive than she ever thought and her stomach was in her throat. The only time it even was normal was when she got up the courage to kiss him once they were alone in the back of the cab.
The cab stopped in front of the Denny's and Ceri sighed. She told the driver to wait there in case she needed to go back to the terminal and he smiled warmly at her. Gathering her now blown courage, she walked into the restaurant, half expecting Rowan to just not be there. But he was. He looked up from the counter and a flash of something was in his eye and then was gone. Rememberence? Revoltion? The expression on his face was encrypted by his smile and Ceri felt at ease, yet she wanted to run back outside and jump into the cab and have him to just drive forever. "Welcome to Denny's, would you like non-smoking or non-smoking?" he said cheerfully. Ceri couldn't help but laugh and replied, "I'll take, ah, non-smoking if you have it." He showed her to a corner booth and gave her the menu. After ordering her drink and meal, he left and she sat there wondering if Rowan even recognized her at all. Ceri looked down. She had lost a bit of weight, her hair was much lighter and longer. But did a year or so make that much of a difference?
When Rowan came back with her drink, he sat it down on the table, winked at her and then left again. It happened so fast, she wasn't even sure it had really transpired that way. Then she noticed the note. It was folded along with the napkin that was placed under her drink. She unfolded it and read it slowly.
Ceri-
I wasn't expecting you to be here of all places. But since you are in town, I get off at 5, maybe we can go do something tonight? You still like pool right?
Ceri looked up and noticed Rowan was standing at the entrance of the kitchen watching her. She smiled and nodded a bit and he smiled back, then disappeared. She looked down at her watch, it was a quarter past 4 now, if she ate slowly, he should be off by the time she finished. At that time, the taxi driver came in and she waved him over. "Everything okay Ma'am?" he asked. She nodded and gave him his full fare plus an extra $20 for waiting patiently. "I'll be getting a ride from here, so there's no need for you to wait. Thanks so much!" she said cheerfully and he beamed, tipping his baseball hat to her in mock gentlemanly fashion. Her food arrived just then and she thought better of her manners. "Excuse me, would you like to join me for a late lunch?" she asked the driver and he smiled again. They chatted over their meals and some coffee, which Ceri noticed it was getting to be 5. Rowan stopped by the table and she looked up at him. "Ready?" he asked and Ceri nodded. She grabbed some cash out of her wallet and threw it on the table. "This should cover the meal" she said and her companion for the hour nodded and thanked her again. Her mother always belittled her for her warm heart, but Ceri didn't care. That bitch was dead now, rotting in the ground due to a severe heart attack brought on by stress. If she had only listened to the doctors.
"You okay?" Rowan asked her and Ceri shook herself out of her reverie.
"Yeah, fine, just a bit tired from the trip." She chided herself for even mentioning the trip because she knew what his next question would be. She always knew what he was going to say before he did, was something they just had.
"Yeah- speaking of the trip, why?" He briefly looked at her and Ceri kicked herself.
Yes, why did Ceri take this trip? You'll have to wait until the next installment of "Reunion" to find out!
