Chapter 9 – Part 1

Ever get that feeling where you’re just sick of everyone coming up to you, asking you what happened? And all that people who are asking you truly don’t even care. They just want to appear that way. Welcome to high school.

I came back to school Monday; I had missed a few days, but nothing I couldn’t catch up on. Every time some one saw me they waved, and if they hadn’t already they asked what happened and how I was, and then Brandon.

Teachers were even lenient with me, which I got sick of. I didn’t want to be treated any different than the person walking next to me. It was so annoying, everyone taking pity on you, when there was no reason. I survived, Brandon is doing fine. We was planning on coming to school in the next few days.

Practice was a complete horror story. I hadn’t been there in a few days, and going by the way coach reacted to the fact I had a boyfriend, she wasn’t going to be happy he was the reason I missed practice.

I walked out to the field, there were a couple other girls there, getting their cleats on. I was all ready, and I slowly paced over to my coach. She turned and looked me, while removing her sunglasses.

“Peters.” She said. I could feel her cold glare looking at my face.

“I’m sorry I haven’t been here.” I said looking her in the eye.

“We all know where you’ve been.” She switched her weight back and forth from foot too foot, like she was hesitant about what she was telling me. “Just don’t let it happen again.” She blew her whistle and practice started. I guess she was just going to forgive me, which was fine with me.

I went through the motions of practice, but my head was anywhere but where it should have been. I just wanted everything to go back to normal. My parents still were acting odd around me, and I hadn’t figured out why. I was going to see Brandon tonight, eat dinner with his mom and him. Then we were going to watch a movie.

I got into my mother’s car and shut the door. She asked me those generic questions as we drove to the stop sign and sat there, waiting for traffic to clear.

“So how was today?” She asked. This was the first time I had rode with her home, Brandon’s mom usually got us, as she worked down the street.

“Hard, but what was expected? Everyone treats me so odd now, and I don’t know why. It’s like there is something everyone is hiding, a secret; they can’t tell me because they don’t know how I will react. That is how today went.”

The rest of the way home was silent, I don’t know whether it was because of what I had said, or what I hadn’t. I just wanted to get home, so I could go to Brandon’s.

The car pulled into the driveway; I opened my door, closed it and made my way up to the steps. I opened the door, everything looked normal. I kicked my shoes off and hustled up stairs. My mom came in slowly behind me. I went into my room, grabbed some clean clothes and took a shower.

As soon as my shower was over and I was ready, I flew down the stairs and put some shoes on. My mother waved to me, letting me know that she saw me leave. I nodded and left. The walk to Brandon’s house always seemed to take forever when I was alone, he didn’t actually live that far away, but it felt like it.

As soon as his house was in view, I could feel the excitement inside of me grow. The lights were on and I swear I could smell the wonderful chicken cooking from outside the house. I walked up the steps onto the wooden porch, with a quaint roof.

As I went to knock on the door, it opened and Brandon was there smiling at me, I smiled back and he wanted me to come up to his room. I could smell dinner, but we didn’t go into the dinning room. I followed him to his room where we both sat on his room.

“Lauren.” He said, his smile suddenly disappeared. “I have to talk to you about something.”

Next one tomorrow maybe!
