Keira tossed and turned in her bed all night, unable to fall into the world of sleep. Usually the gentle sway of the ship could put her to sleep in a matter of minuets but tonight the thoughts of captain Lefaye and navy could not give her mind a moment of peace.

“ What’s father planning to do?” Thought Keira for the millionth time that night.Keira was anxious and fidgety. She would find no rest in her bedchamber, so she got out of bed and threw a blanket over she shoulder. Exiting her room she out onto the ship’s deck and stood at the bow.

The night was clear and stars were strewn wildly across the black sky. Standing there feeing the tossing of the waves and hearing the rush of water and the creaking of the ship make Keira remember what was at stake. This was her world, and this world was being threatened by Lefaye and the navy. She wondered what would happen if this life at sea was taken from her. She wondered how she would ever survive.

Looking out over the sea she thought she saw something approaching on the horizon. It was very dark but for a moment she thought she saw a flicker light, then a sudden shadow of something being quickly snuffed out.

Keira had seen a great many maps and had a very keen sense of direction. And from her recollection, she couldn’t remember there being any land in this area.

“ Am I just seeing things?” Thought Keira. She was chilled then by a sudden breeze and clutched her blanket more tightly around herself. She tried to think of more pleasant things but nothing would soothe the endless tide of fears that brushed against her heart.

She was so deep in thought at this point that she didn’t hear the sound of quietly approaching footsteps. She didn’t sense the prescience of someone coming up right behind her, but she did feel and rush of pain to her head as that someone bashed something hard against the back of her head.

All Keira could remember was that her world had gone dark.
