“ Good day to you Mr. Chauce.” Cries Keira cheerfully.“Good day Keira.” Mr. Chauce said trying to pass her by as quickly as possible. But Keira was not going to be passed by. “ What were you and my father talking about?” She asked not beating around the bush.

“ Nothing of consequence.” Replied Mr. Chauce shortly. She stood in front of him looking up into his face. He tried to walk around her but she was to fast.“ If it’s nothing why are you trying to avoid me so much?”“Go Away!” He turned and tried to run away but Keira perused. “ Why are you running away from me?” she called, a hint of amusement in her voice. “ You know I’m not going to stop following you until you tell me.”

Mr. Chauce let out a cry of frustration. “ Blasted child!” He cried. “ Can’t you do as you are asked just this once?”He stopped and turned to look her in the eye.“ No.” She told him. “ Now just tell me. Father has been acting strange for the past three days and I want to know why. There is something he’s not telling me and you know what it is. So tell me.”

Mr. Chauce found it dreadfully hard to say no to Keira so he thought that maybe he could tell her the truth but not all of it.“ Alright.” Hissed Chauce. He pulled her over to the rail of the ship. They stood overlooking the water and in a whispering voice Mr. Chauce spoke. “ We’re being perused. The Navy is after us and so is our dear old friend Captain Lefaye.” Keira let out a gasp of surprise, but let him continue. “ We’re being perused, by him and his crew. He’s out seeking revenge.” Keira crossed her arms defiantly across her chest. “ What’s so horrible about that?” said Keira. “ Captain Lefaye and his crew are no match for us.” Keira spoke loudly, fully confident in the ability of her father and the crew. “ Is that really all?”

Mr. Chauce shrugged, hoping that Keira would leave him be after this. “ I cannot believe that my father would think me to be such a coward. I am not afraid of Lefaye, nor will I ever let him get the better of me.” Keira was outraged. “ As for the navy, well, our ship is by far superior to any in the navy. Why is my father so worried? It’s not like we’ve never been pursued before?”

Keira turned to Mr. Chauce. “ Why didn’t my father just tell me all of this to begin with? And what’s he planning to do?” She asked generally concerned.“ I’m not sure, “ Lied Chauce. “ But it’d be best for my sake that you didn’t tell your father that I told you anything. He’ll be quite cross with me if he finds out.”“ Of course Mr. Chauce,” replied Keira “ My lips are sealed.”With that she walked away towards he cabin leaving Chauce to his work.

Mr. Chauce let out a great sigh of relief, for he had done it. He had successfully evaded telling Keira what plans her father had for her. But still, even he had questions. Why was the Captain so afraid? The truth was as Keira said; they had been pursued many times before and had always escaped capture. There was something else going on that the captain wasn’t telling. Mr. Chauce thought on this for the entirety of the evening to no resolution and was left only to wonder about what the future held for himself, Keira, the Captain, and the rest of the crew.
