The Kiss part 8
|
Allyson woke up to the sound of clattering just outside the cabin and the smell of bacon. She thought of getting up immediately but she wasn’t sure if she wanted Vaan to see her in all of her “ morning glory.” So after brushing through her hair with her fingers and rubbing the tiredness from her eyes, she got up. Seeing then that he was not inside.
Stepping onto the cold floor made her shiver, but she continued to the door anyway. The door was already open and the sudden glare of light took her by surprise. After a moment of blindness she saw Vaan cooking over a fire out in the yard.
“ Breakfast is almost ready,” Said Vaan with out even looking at her. “ I laid a dress out on my bed. Change into it.” Allyson shrugged off his unpleasant attitude and did as he asked. She put on the simple brown dress, with accents of blue, and found a pair of leather boots, on the floor just beside the bed, the perfect size for her feet. She did wonder where he had found these.
Allyson longed for a hair brush but made due with he own two hands. She ended up discovering a hair tie in the pocket of her pants that still hung, in front of the fireplace.
Pulling her hair back, she went out side.
A plate of food was shoved into her face. Vaan didn’t say a word to her. Is he upset about something? She wondered, for he wouldn’t even look at her.
Quietly she ate her breakfast alone beside the fire watching Vaan run in and out of the house and the stable. He seemed to be preparing something. Allyson wondered if he was packing up to go somewhere.
Finally Vaan stopped beside her and said. “ Hurry up! We have to leave.” Then he dashed into the house, for whatever reason. Allyson ate the rest of breakfast and took the plate in the house. Every thing is so serious with him, he could’ve at least told me we were going somewhere. Sheesh!
Allyson tried to maintain a cheery disposition towards his pushy behavior but she ended up just keeping quiet. He had after all helped her out a lot.
Vaan was putting her cloths into a satchel, when Allyson walked into the house to return the plate. “ Can you ride?” Asked Vaan. Allyson cringed. “ A little.” She had only ever been on a horse a few times, but none of which required her to actually control the animal. He stood up and motioned for her to follow him.
Together they walked out of the house to the stables. Inside were two horses, one clearly older than the other. “ You ride Asha,” he said pointing to a white horse with gray speckles, that was the older one. The gate was open and the saddle was ready and packed.
Allyson set her jaw and threw herself up onto the horse almost flinging off the other side completely. She thought that she heard a snickering in Vaan’s direction but she decided not to address it. Vaan led her and his own horse, a dark black one with a star shaped mark between its eyes, out into the open.
“ Where are we going.” Allyson asked. Vaan gracefully mounted his horse, and then replied. “ I’m taking you to Sapienta, and from there we seek a man named Isaac. If any one will know how to get you home, he will.”
Something about Vaan’s expression as he spoke touched Allyson. “ Vaan,” she said. “ Thank you so much for helping me, I don’t’ know why you would go to so much trouble for a complete stranger but…”
Vaan cut her off, as he yelled a sound “ Yah” and his horse began to trot away. Allyson was almost angry but she noticed a faint shade of pink appear on his features as he turned his face from her. Allyson could only sigh and nod her head with reluctant acceptance. This is going to be a long trip. She thought.
