The Birch's Lament part 1
|
I wandered into the shadow of the trees, where I had been so many times before. The trees, though taller now, were still the same. It was drizzling rain a little, but it didn’t matter.
I walked slowly remembering the times my sister and I had run through the trees, in an imaginary adventure, pretending to like the twelve dancing princesses off to some place where wishes came true and only happiness reigns.
I brushed my fingertips across the tree bark, the feeling was the same, the smell was the same too. The scattering of beds of moss on the forest floor mixed with fallen tree bark and dirt were soft under my steps.
This time there was no anxiety as there had been then. There were no hushed whispers, or veils of secrecy.I walked on alone in the woods, remembering the light steps that normally followed ahead of me.
Then I came to a small clearing. Tall grass grew up to my calf, and the occasional wild flower sprouted up from the ground.
It too was the same.
The wind blew through the trees brushing my hair into my eyes, the years had not changed this place. I could hear the fragments of laughter from long ago. I could see the graceful motions of Liselle dancing amongst the grass and flowers.
I was taken back to that time and that place. I could remember it all too well.
