Playing the Part of the Hostage part 1
|
It was all too good to be true. I went to a small college up in Maine, you know the state, and when I heard that my English Lit Honors class won a trip to Europe, I was ecstatic.
I, Anna Winters, was going to Europe for next to nothing. I would be going to Paris, London and Spain, with a fairly small group class mates/friends. It was a glorious opportunity that I welcomed with open arms. I got a passport, and the tickets were paid for. I would be gone for an entire month. I doubt I could’ve been any happier.
The day finally came to leave and I met with everyone else who was going on the trip in the college’s parking lot. It was about eight in the morning then. There was nine of us all together. The chaperones were two of teachers Mr. Allen Dunmore the math professor and his wife the lit professor Mrs. Sidney Dunmore. The other students were besides myself were Faye Kenly, Jordan Bouts, Greg Vermont, Kylie Schroeder, Lan Corlinder, and Amy Bash.
I know then all pretty well through honors classes and special events tat we had to take part in but out of all of then I was closest to Amy and Lan.
I met Amy in high school and we’ve been good friends since. She is one of the most out going girls you’ll ever know and everybody seems to know her and love her because she is just that sweet.
Lan I met Jr. High but we didn’t really become friends until just recently. He’s kind of quiet at first but he just has to get used to you. And trust me, now he has no problem telling me exactly what he thinks of me and what I’m doing, which isn’t always a good for me. He also is prone to looking mean but this really isn’t at all a true representation of his personality. He’s just really good at giving evil glares.
Faye is absolutely beautiful, she looks like a life sized Barbie doll, hair eyes, the works and her family is even rich. But she is a real sweet heart who is really down to earth and is very easy to get along with.
Greg is....well.....a nerd/geek., he tends to be a little anti-social, always burying himself in a book or watching an Anime on his I-phone. It took a while but after a few months at honors he put aside his I-phone and became part of the group.
Jordan is a basketball player but probably one of the only ones who strives to do good in his schooling, let alone make an effort. He’s a big guy who is rather intimidating in size but is a gentle giant most of the time, though I wouldn’t want to make him mad.
Last of all is Kylie. She’s an interesting girl, a little manipulative but still very nice. You always have to watch yourself around her cause she’s usually up to something. She has a brilliant mind if only she’d use it for good and not for April Fool’s day.
Rounding off our group of merry travelers are the two chaperones.Mr. Dunmore is a quiet man who is very direct, to the point and likes to play by the rules, which is probably why he’s the calculus teacher. His wife Mrs. Dunmore is his opposite; She’s cheery, thrives on disorder and chaos and is a very openly caring woman. The to are expecting a child soon and it will be their first.
All of us were ready to go, so after doing a head count and loading up our luggage. We took a bus to the airport and after getting cleared we went into the terminal and waited for our plane to arrive.
We waited in the terminal and everyone was really excited. After about a half and hour the plane was ready to board. All of us entered the plane and took our seats. I was lucky enough to have the window seat. Next to me sat Amy and Lan. It was an awesome flight. The view was so gorgeous. We flew over the ocean and it looked like a vast blue field, it didn’t look at all like water. Eventually though, I fell asleep, but it was really only a catnap......that lasted about five hours. Lan said I snored but I refuse to believe him.
Before we knew it we had landed in Paris. Yes, Pairs It now being almost a full day since we left from home. I tell you when my feet hit the French terminal I swear I almost cried.
“ Isn’t this exciting Lan?” I cried grabbing his arm, staring off dreamily. “ Yeah.” Was all he said, “ Great, when do you get to sleep?”“ Don’t be so grumpy.” I replied walking faster to catch up with Amy who would most definitely be sharing my enthusiasm. “ You could’ve slept on the plane you know.” He looked at me with tired eyes. “ I can’t sleep in moving vehicles.” Then when my back was turned he added. “ Especially when someone next to me is snoring.”I shot an angry glare at him as I walked away, but a sour expression couldn’t stay settled upon my features because this was all just so amazing.
In a whirl of time that seemed like seconds we got our luggage, were cleared at customs and took our place outside to wait for our transport that would take us to the hotel where we would be staying. It was all to good to be true.
But you know what they say about that. If it’s too good to be true it probably is. We’ll whoever said that was dead on cause it was after we got on our bus that the troubles began.
