A Tale of Three Kingdoms
|
Once upon a time there existed three kingdoms, each with their own people and own fabulous creatures.
There was a kingdom in the sky and all who lived there had great feathery wings of all colors and sizes and their eyes were either gold or silver shining bright as stars. They were a courageous people who were just, kind, loving and selfless. All beings of the sky including the beasts had wings, a few would nest upon the upper-earth but most rarely set foot on earth. They built their castles and houses atop the clouds keeping their homes out of sight of the other kingdoms.
The second kingdom was on the upper-earth. It's people varied more than any of the other kingdoms and so did it's creatures, but none could naturally leave the ground they lived on. They worked the earth and found many means in which they provided for their livelihood. The people came in all shapes, sizes and colors, and their natures varied as much as their looks. They stood in awe of the sky kingdom looking to the skies hoping to catch a glimpse but to see the third kingdom they had to look down.
The third kingdom lay below the ground in what is called the under-earth. It's people were pale, dark eyed, and solitary. They built mighty structures of smooth stone and rarely came out of their hollow cities. They mined jewels and valued the thing that shined. All of their livelihood came from the ground, they ate roots, and creatures of pestilent kinds, and whatever minerals they could harvest. They were a silent people who cared for their own interest with much vigor and intensity. They also were a just people but often their ways are considered cruel and dark.
These people of the under-earth hated many things, like the sun, which burned their pale skin, or the miners of upper-earth that sometimes dug to deep into their territory, but they hated nothing more than they hated the People of the sky. They wanted to destroy the sky kingdom and for years they have plotted a way of destroying them permanently.
Some of the upper-earth had dealing with the sky kingdom and the under-earth hated these people as well. For those few of the upper-earth had become great friends with the sky people, and the sky people grew to love the upper-earth kingdom even though not all of the upper-earth loved them.
The under-earth hated this fellowship, they hated it so greatly that they devised a plan to destroy all that they hated.
The under-earth lay hold of the entire upper-earth kingdom, and threatened to kill all who lived in that kingdom. The People of the sky were outraged and their many warriors wanted to fight, but the upper-earth was taken as a hostage. If the sky people attacked, the upper-earth people would die.
So the under-earth people and the sky people met on a moonless and starless night, on a cliff overhanging the sea. They bartered for the lives of the upper-earth for many nights until an agreement was struck. To the joy of the under-earth, for every upper-earth person to be saved there would be a sky person's death in exchanged. And there between them lay a promise that the under-earth would never physically kill a person of the upper-earth.
The Sky people did not tell the upper-earth, though some knew what the cost was, there was no way to stop it.
On a cold black night on that same cliff by the sea, the blood of the innocent sky race was spilt. One for every life to be spared.
The under-earth cast the sky peoples' bodies into the sea, where their blood spilled out into the waters turning them red for three days and three nights. The waters of the sea were turned up and groaned at the evil that had taken place. The seas then crept their way into the under-earth and caused a great flood. Half of the under-earth was destroyed and it's people were lessened.
The upper-earth people saw this and knew what had been done to save their lives. They were grateful to the sky kingdom but as time went some on the upper-earth forgot the great sacrifice and began to have dealings with the under-earth.
The under-earth did promise never to physically hurt any of the upper-earth but they could convince to the upper-earth to hurt themselves. A newfound darkness swept into the hearts of some of the upper-earth. Violence and lies and thievery flooded the kingdom. Evil spread like a plague, whispered and shared by the deceiving lips of the few of the under-earth that remained. But not all hope had been destroyed. Not all of the sky people had been killed. A very few number remained, and in that few, there was hope.
The remaining sky people defended those who still loved the sky kingdom and it's people. They began working against the under-earth and in time dedicated their lives to defeating the under-earth as tribute to the great sacrifice that had been made.
Since then a war has been raging over the fate of the upper-earth. Few see it but every day great battles are fought. The sky people fight the under-earth with help from a select few of upper-earth who are still loyal. But loses have been had on both sides and the battle still rages on. The end is unknowable but both sides still fight. Those of the upper-earth are caught in-between this battle, forced to make a choice. To play their part for the furthering of good, or for evil.
