She saw him walk from the back of the store, a haughty and slightly mad look on his face, and after preparing herself mentally for weeks for this encounter, still wasn't quite ready for the usual increase of heart rate she always got when she saw him. 

From the first days she knew him, til now, he hadn't changed- still the same great guy, she thought, watching him as he toasted her with his bottle of milk.  She literally smiled so wide it hurt as she ran to him to hug him, nearly sending his milk flying.

"Calm down, Mer, it's alright." he said, returning the embrace.  They broke apart after a minute or two.

"I thought this would be a pleasant day!  I haven't seen you in over a year, how are you?" said the guy, sitting down in a chair by one of the book aisles.  He gestured to a chair sitting opposite his, still smiling.

"I'm.. alright.  More than usual now." Merideth said, unable to believe how just seeing him always shooed her inner demons away, so much more successfully than she herself ever could.

After sitting down, and arranging herself comfortably, she looked at him once more, almost as though making sure he was still there, for she was happier now than she'd ever been.  She just wondered if she still would be, if, after telling him what's been going on lately..
