Lost Without You Ch.40

Fiction Created on 3-13-08 Views(91) Story Rating G

Angel was studying for a midterm as Camila recited her monologue for the fiftieth time. Angel turned the volume of her MP3 player higher, she couldn't concentrate. She dumped all of her books into her bag and put her head down. Mid-terms, competition, youth service....

She was starting to feel frustration when Gabriel appeared. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her. She took the headphones off and smiled.

"How's the studing coming along?"

She smirked and looked at Camila. She looked as if she was talking to herself. Gabriel laughed and kissed her.

"Come on, I want to show you something."

He took her by the hand and led her to their room. She sat down on the floor beside him as he handed her an old composition notebook.

"What's this?"

"Open it. This is one thing that should help."

She opened it and found Bible verses and scribbles notes on them. To anyone else it would look like and essay on one verse of the Bible but it was his message.

"I used to write a bunch of them...But I didn't ever use them when I first preached. But it helped me get my mind together. And one more thing that helps...Fasting."

"Fasting?"

"Yea...I'll fast with you if you want. So you don't feel so alone."

She nodded. She had never fasted before. She smiled.

"That'd be nice."

Mid-terms began the next day, Angel staring down at the packet in front of her. She breezed through it, finishing in a half hour. She took her Bible out in and read it, ignoring the stares from the people beside her. Even her teacher was looking at her.

"Can I help you?", she whispered and they all looked away. The teacher didn't remove her gaze. Angel sighed and continued to read. After class as she got ready to go, her teacher stopped her.

"You were reading the Bible in my classroom."

"I know."

"You know that since the beginning of the school year I specifically asked that we promote a healthy environment for the other students of different religions. You could have made someone uncomfortable."

"I made you uncomfortable. No one else complained. If Sadee decides to read a passage from the Koran, would you stop her? If David wants to read the Torah will you deny him? No. But me, reading the Bible you feel the need to stop me. Go ahead. Try. It's my desire to read God's word at any moment I can. I wasn't disturbing anyone nor did I make a scene. I did my work and I was bored. So if there is a problem in that fine."

Angel left the class and continued the rest of her day, midterms were not as bad as she thought it would be. She went home and got ready for church. Service was good and she went home, thinking about the competition just a week away. She hadn't practiced anything and she hadn't been so focused on it. She laid in bed awake, trying to think of what to do. And then she rememdered her poem, Life from the Ashes.
