Azriel held Tirzah's hand as they walked up the old path to their home, Azriel smiling when the carpentar's children ran up to him and hugged him. He held them in his arms, remembering their smiles. He heard the carpentar welcome him home.

"We have missed you, Master..."

"And I to you.."

"Master?", said one of the children,"Your eyes are grey...Like rain clouds.."

Azriel laughed.

"Are they now! Tirzah I believe this one has beaten your poetic skill."

Tirzah laughed, Azriel hugging the child tight.

"Can you see me Master?"

"No, sadly I can't. But I can hear you better, and I am sure right now you're smiling, aren't you?"

"Yes, Master I am. How did you know?"

"The tone of your voice.... Come now, let us all eat and be merry!"

He held the hands of the children, everyone going up to Azriel's house. Tirzah made food from what the carpentar and his wife brought them. Azriel sat in the courtyard, telling the children his mishaps after he became blind, making a joke of how he almost fell of the roof once. Tirzah smiled, he had never been so happy before.

He continued making light of his blindness, the children laughing until their parents called them to eat. Azriel made his way to the table, Tirzah sitting beside him. Everyone was silent, the children giggling. Azriel ate silently, a smile on his face. After they left, Azriel walked up to the roof as Tirzah cleaned up. She found him sitting at the edge of the roof.

"The sun is setting isn't it?"

"Yes...it is."

She sat next to him, her feet dangling off the edge. He held her hand. She looked at him, tears falling from his eyes. But he was smiling.

"I saw the child smile today..."

"Why didn't you say anything?"

"It became dark again...Maybe it was all in my mind. But I saw her smile, she has a tooth missing.."

"Yes, she does."

"She had a little dress on, grey or something.."

"It was white..."

He nodded and smiled. He looked up into sky, closing his eyes.

You let me see again, for a brief moment. The smile of a child, unafraid. She didn't fear me...No longer am I a monster am I....

Azriel smiled, the cool breeze caressing his face and blowing through his hair. Tirzah rested her head on his shoulder. There was something about him now, more beautiful than before. He had changed from the inside, no longer fully hers but Yahweh's. He was like Saul who at first was a monster, killing the Jews so long ago and then went blind and became Paul, a strong man of God. She smiled, Azriel was new. Free.
