Azriel mourned his brother's death in silence, Tirzah unable to console him. They had been in her father's house for weeks now, Ruel and Tirzah keeping the house in one piece. Yocheved was a wreck, Miriam in depression. She had lost her husband and father in a year.

Azriel stood in their room for the first few days, angry and frustrated. But he stopped pitying himself, getting up from the bed and walking around her house. He used his hearing and sense of touch like he always had in his assassin days just now he was in constant darkness. Tirzah would find him on the roof most days, walking around the egde, trying to see how far he could walk without falling off.

He walked around the house with ease, finding the courtyard and asking Ruel to help him train. Ruel denied it at first, telling Azriel he was a fool for trying to fight blind. But Azriel was determined and stubborn, Ruel had no choice. Azriel stood in place, listening, he learned the sounds of Ruel's moevements, knowing when to block a hit and when to attack. Ruel was surprised by this, Azriel was unbeatable, even blind.

"Why won't you let me help you?"

"I donnot want to be depending on you to survive! What will I do when you leave? How will I eat if you are not present? I refuse to stay in a room confined to this darkness!"

Azriel stood facing the window, Tirzah was standing beside him.

"I only want to help."

"Then tell me what you see.", he said pointing outwards. She saw the land she had claimed as freedom once.

"I see my father's land, the river and the valleys. The blue sky and s few clouds."

"See it Tirzah, don't just look at it. Like your songs, when you sing of Yahweh's creation. Describe what you see, so that I may see it."

"I see freedom, wide pastures of emerald, flowers of rubies and hyacinth bowing in the wind. The sky is blue, brighter than sapphires. The clouds are like silk, the rivers as crystal. The birds in the distance as angels, flying higher and higher. A freedom we took from you..."

Azriel bowed his head and smiled. He could hear her crying now, her light steps walking away. He put his hand to the bars on the window, imagining to himself the scene she had depicted, the freedom that was taken from him. He walked downstairs, he could hear her soft sobbing getting closer. He sat down on a bench, Tirzah was kneeling on the floor.

"Why are you crying? You took nothing from me. Yes, I cannot see. I no longer see this world. But now I see things differently, love. I see this world as we are intended to see it. Right now everything is dark, but when I look at it from here, in my heart it is more beautiful than what it was before I lost my sight. A pity I only saw suffering all my life, maybe I should have been blind as a child, I would have seen things differently. In my darkness I replay my life and only see what I didn't see with my eyes. Others guided what I saw. And that was my folly. Meeting you was my freedom, my escape. You have done nothing more than love me and give me peace. What more could I ask for? Yahweh has blessed me with you, this lack of sight. Donnot cry, for I am happy now."
