Escape Ch.8

Fiction Created on 2-20-08 Views(92) Story Rating G

Tirzah stood on deck, the sun was setting. She had her eyes on the endless waters, she had lost count of the time at sea. She wondered what dangers awaited her in Crete, how long it would take for them to get to Athens.

Azriel crept on deck, he saw Tirzah standing alone. They hadn't spoken for days, Tirzah sleeping on the other side of the room. He had scared her away, his anger and tendency to speak out without thinking pushed her away. He sat down indian style, watching her. He couldn't see her face but could tell she was weeping. She cried silently, one had to pay close attention to her barely shuddering body to notice. He wanted to hold her, to tell her he would bring her somewhere safe. But he knew that was a lie. He missed her singing, her dancing under the moonlight. He missed her tender touch, her sweet caress when he needed comfort.

 What have I done?

Tirzah felt no emotion when she saw Crete in the horizon. She simply turned and went below deck, getting their things. She handed Azriel his things, walking to her previous spot.

"My lady...", he said as they entered Crete. She stopped walking.

"Yes my lord?"

"Do you have any idea where you are?"

"Crete."

She continued walking, Azriel calling her again.

"My lady. You donnot know where we are going. Stay with me. It's this way."

He felt his heart pound with sorrow as she walked ahead in the direction he pointed to. He walked behind her, his eyes watching every person who came near. He had his hand on the hilt of his sword, ready for anything.

"My lady?"

"Yes?"

"We are here."

She turned around and looked at him.

"Where are we?"

"There, to your right."

She looked and saw nothing but rocks and trees. She laughed and walked to the rock that had a small space under. She sat down and laughed, tears coming out of her eyes.

"Oh Azriel. This...We are hiding under a rock?"

"Well, my lady, no. If you crawl inside, you will see."

She crawled in, seeing rugs and cushions. There was a table and draperies. She stood up and stared at the hidden cave that could pass as a Sultan's bedroom.

"How..."

"I have come here many times over the course of my life. Sit, make yourself at home."

He threw his things on the table, taking a long piece of wood with metal spikes on it against the small entrance of the cave. He started a fire, Tirzah sitting on the cushions. He undressed, finding the water pool. He had a drape that covered the pool. There he fully undressed and jumped in the water. He swam around, finding the little bottles of perfumes and oils. He hummed to himself, Tirzah finding a small dress in her bag. She didn't look at him as he walked passed her, no shirt just pants. He jumped on his small bed.

"Feel free to do as you like. I'm going to sleep a while."

She nodded and grabbed her dress going behind the drapes. She undressed, slowly going into the pool. It was cold and she smirked. He had left the bottle at the far end of the pool. She swam to them, bathing herself. She began to sing softly, stopping when Azriel was standing at the edge of the pool. She wrapped her arms around herself, not looking at him.

"I'd like my privacy.", she said nervously,"My lord."

He nodded as if in a trance.

"You're not moving."

"Yes..Of course."

He turned and went back to his bed. Tirzah got out of the pool, slipping on her dress. She squeezed the water from her hair, walking towards the cushions. Azriel could see the outlines of her body and he turned over, his back to her. She saw scars on his back, some small some that must have been deep. She noticed a burn on his upper back. It was in the shape of a cross. She got up and walked over to him, sitting on the bed. He felt himself freeze. She was tracing his scars. When she touched his burn he turned over and grabbed her hand.

"I'd like to rest, my lady. I gave you your privacy. Now give me mine."

She got loose of his grip and went back to the cushions on the floor. She laid down and covered herself with one of the silk sheets. Azriel felt foolish for what he said. It was impulse. Tirzah fought with hersef as she struggled to find sleep.

Yahweh...Why? Why him?....

The next morning Azriel was dressed and ready. He sat on his bed as she got ready. He crawled out first, making sure no one saw them. He helped her out and began walking. She followed him, he was walking faster than normal. When they reached the port he paid the passage to Athens. Azriel went below deck, Tirzah following him. She sat beside him, keeping a distance between them.

"Tirzah?"

"Yes?"

He stood silent. He looked into her eyes, he wanted to pull her back. He put his hand on her cheek. She looked at him, fear in her eyes. She put her hand on his. He smiled. Somewhere in her heart she was still his, she still had a place for him in her heart. He had hope in pulling her to him. He just hoped he could do so before something caused her to fear him more.
