Escape Ch.6
Azriel and Tirzah held hands as they walked down the plank. Alexandria was as beautiful as Tirzah had read about. She almost felt excitement in thinking they would stay her, until she remembered the Seven.
"Now, my lady, we must be most cautious here. Not everyone is a friend. The Seven have allies here. I doubt most know I have departed from them, but I won't be taking any chances. From the moment we enter the city you are to be on guard. Should anything happen you run, get on the first ship to Greece and be gone."
She stopped him as they walked.
"I will not leave you."
"My lady, you must. Now, let us be on our way. We need to find shelter for the night."
He took her to an old friend's home, Artemesia. She was an old woman, her white hair braided into a knot. She had bright eyes and a sweet smile. Her house was filled with statues of Athena and flowers adorned the rooms. She was cooking when Azriel entered the room. She ran to him, hugging him tight.
"You devil! Oh it has been too long my child. Oh, what's this? A maiden at your side!"
She let go of Azriel and went to Tirzah. She led them into the courtyard, underneath the pavillion.
"My dear Azriel..What hell do you bring my house now?"
"I have left the guild, the Seven are after my life."
"Well, well...That is a sad tale you bring my old heart. You mean a great deal to me. But now, you did right coming here. May I ask, where are you headed?"
"The Greek isles."
"The next ship to Greece does not sail for another three days."
Azriel sighed. He didn't want to give them three days advance.
"Fear not my son, you can rest here. I will go to town and get you anything you need. In the meanwhile, rest, eat, drink and be merry. You are home now. Show your lady the baths. She looks most fatigued."
She took her staff and walked out, leaving them alone. Azriel showed Tirzah a room where she could bathe and change clothes. Azriel sat outside her door, hearing her singing again. She was singing the most solemn song he had ever heard, but her voice was all together beautiful.
Tirzah looked at herself in the mirror, she had not seen her own reflection since she had left her father's house. She smiled, dressing into a simple dress, leaving her haor loose. She tied her sandals and put her dagger in her belt.
"Azriel?"
She walked out and he was no where to be found. She walked slowly, looking around. She smelled a foul stench. She followed it, hearing muffled voices. She walked into a room, Azriel was on the floor, a dark, tall man on him, choking him. Azriel kicked him and began to hit him in the face, the man's blood splattering onto Azriel's clothes. Tirzah watched in horror as Azriel cracked the man's neck. Azriel looked up and Tirzah ran off.
"Tirzah!"
He got up and ran after her. She was in the courtyard, sitting on the floor. He walked over to her, reaching out to her.
"Forgive me, I didn't see you."
"No, don't....You had to do it."
"You've never seen death before?"
"Yes...But...Never that close."
Azriel wanted to hold her but then he remebered the blood. He moved away rushing inside. Tirzah went back to the body, he was lying there, his eyes wide open. She saw the pendant around his neck and took it. She had seen Azriel with one already. She walked around Artemesia's home, trying to find Azriel. She opened the door farthest from the entrance of the house. It led to a small man made pool. Azriel was half dressed, his bloodied shirt on the ground. He was splashing water at his face. His hair dripped with water, his blue eyes looking into the water.
"Seth was like my brother. Or so I believed. He taught me many things, we used to be like brothers. But the bond can only be so close until someone leaves the guild. I am no longer his brother, I became his enemy."
Tirzah felt the pain in his voice. She walked over to where he was kneeling, sitting beside him. She handed him the pendant, he took it and smiled.
"Five more.", he said, looking up to the sky. He looked at her and caressed her face. He looked into her eyes, fear and sadness were in them.
"Fear not, my lady. You shall be safe as long as I am breathing. They forget I am the Seventh."
She laughed, surprising him with an embrace. He wrapped his arms around her, he knew she was afraid.
"I promise you to never leave your side, no matter how afraid I may become. No matter what danger."
"Shh....Donnot worry...I will protect you."
Yahweh....Please be with us...
