Escape Ch.4

Fiction Created on 2-19-08 Views(105) Story Rating G

Azriel sat Tirzah in front of him, to hold her as she slept. They rode down towards Gaza, Azriel knew they would be there in a few days. They stopped to eat or drink, they bathed in any river or lake they found. Azriel would ride off a few miles, giving her privacy and keeping a look out. He knew his guild sought his life. Once they reached Memphis he wanted to leave to Athens. The farther from Jerusalem the better.

"You see the city?", Azriel asked days later. It was sunrise.

"Is it Gaza?"

"Yes...We made it."

She hugged him tight.

"We can stay here for tonight, get anything we need for eleven days and in no time we shall be in Memphis."

Gaza bustled with people, traders, fishermen from th Great Sea. Tirzah bought herself a new dress, walking out of the room in a black dress, gold on her wrists and ears. She wore her nose ring, smiling as she twirled her hair.

"You look like a bride."

"Then I shall be your bride tonight, my lord. Come, let us dine tonight amongst the people. No more secrecy. Just for tonight."

She took his hands, her hazel eyes pleading. He nodded. She hugged him tight, watching her dance around their room. He dressed in black as well, his small dagger in his sleeve. He took her hand and they dined at the plaza, Tirzah smiling all through the night. They danced together under the stars, Tirzah singing aloud. Azriel was captivated by her voice, it echoed in his mind, soothing his heart, his every worry. She took his hands into hers, leading him back to the room in which they stayed. She sat him down beside her, looking into his eyes.

"Thankyou, my lord....Now I am tired. I imagine you are as well. Sleep here tonight. I can take the floor."

She took a blanket and placed it gently on the ground, laying down. She didn't close her eyes until he laid down in bed. She smiled and turned over, half of her wishing he was next to her. She shook her head. She prayed to Yaweh for protection as they slept, and that their journey be safe and prosperous. She asked that her father be well.

They began their journey towards Memphis the next day, eleven days away. She thought of Moses and the Isrealites who took the desert path so long ago. She smiled.

They rode all day and found rest under trees. At night the cold air gave them the excuse of sleeping together, neither of them fighting it. It seemes as of the days lingered on forever, neither of them noticing the city when the sun began to rise.

"Azriel...look."

"What is it?"

"Memphis."

He smiled. He realized he had slept as they rode on. Upon reaching Memphis they were stopped at the gate.

"This is Alia, my bride. I am Mosis."

"Alright, alright. Welcome to Memphis."

Azriel smiled, Tirzah was overjoyed. She got off the horse, Azriel walking behind her,he gave the horse to the man at the stables. They walked through the crowds, Tirzah buying dresses and jewels at once. Azriel was quick in finding them a place to stay. He waited for her on the terrace. She looked like an Egyptian bride when she walked out of their room.

"You look radiant. Come now. The Nile awaits us."

He took her hand and he led her to the river. She ran to it when they arrived, without thinking stripping down to almost nothing as she jumped in. Azriel followed her in, the native people just watching them. The two swam about, splashing water at eachother. The natives laughed and continued their business, Azriel getting out to gather their things. She followed him, her under dress was clinging to her body. He tried his hardest not to stare, Tirzah was all together beautiful. She took his cloak and covered herself, smiling.

"Both of our eyes are guilty my lord. Donnot think upon it much."

She took his hand and smiled, leading him back to their temporary home. It was small but beautiful, the courtyard filled with flowers and had a pool at its center. They had a maid, she took their things and they went to bathe and redress. They ate on the roof, Azriel silent.

"What troubles you my lord?"

"We can't stay here long. A few days, maybe a week. But I want to get to Alexandra soon."

"So soon? Azriel what are you not telling me?"

He sighed, drinking from his cup.

"They are following me. We must disspear before they find us."

"They? Your guild?"

"Yes...They seek my life, Tirzah. And until we reach the shores of Greece, we will not be safe."

"Then do as you must."

She bowed before him.

"I shall follow you to the ends of the earth."

He lifted her head and looked into her eyes. He took her into his arms.

"They are dangerous the men that follow me, my lady. Are you sure?"

She put her hand on his cheek.

"There is no greater danger than a woman scorned my lord. I can wield a sword and shoot an arrow. Teach me anything, I am yours."
