Lost Without You Ch.11

Fiction Created on 2-8-08 Views(118) Story Rating G

Sunday morning Angel and Gabriel sat down in Sunday School, learning about Hosea and his wife, Gomer. Hosea had to marry a prostitute and love her like God loved His people, even if they were unfaithful to him. Angel became fascinated by that story, making sure she read it when she got home. Service went as usual, a girl named Christina singing the devotional. The preaching was about Hosea as well, how we sometimes fail God and no matter what, He loves us. Jesus payed the ultimate price for us and always is waiting for us to come home to Him. Angel thought of herself, how much pain she had to go through before realizing her life wouldn't get better until God came in....You really love me don't you...

After church Gabriel talked to Emerie's parents while Angel waited outside for him. Emerie was talking with some of her friends, glaring at Angel. Angel ignored her, Luis walking up to her. She said hi and he asked her if she wanted to sing Wednesday night. Angel said yes without thinking and Luis thanked her and left. Angel blushed and sat down on the bench as she waited for Gabriel, thinking....God, are you serious? I can't sing!....

Gabriel kissed her from behind, Angel jumping up and hitting him.

"Don't scare me like that!"

He laughed,"Let's go home..."

She took his hand and they got in the car.

"I did it again."

"What?"

"I opened my mouth without thinking and now I have to sing on Wednesday."

"Good, you should tell your parents to come."

...Parents....She nodded and looked up into the sky as they drove home...What tricks do you have up your sleeve now?...She smiled and shook her head, not trying to think about having both her parents under the same roof as her. As they got home Gabriel reluctantly took out his school bag and did the homework he had waited two weeks to do. Angel retreated to the room to study the Bible, hearing Gabriel hum softly to himself. When he finished he came into the room and laid down on the bed. Angel put the Bible down and laid down next to him, playing with his hair. Gabriel pulled her into his arms.

"What are you worried about?"

"Nothing...Just Wednesday night. I don't know a single song."

"Yes you do...I heard you sing in the shower once."

"I can't sing that in church."

"Yea you can. It's to God.."

She nodded and sighed.

"But it's so old. And I don't know I guess I'm scared."

He hugged her and reassured her it would be ok.

"For now, think about today, right now, with me."

He kissed her and held her tight, lifting her shirt a bit to kiss her belly.

"And you, we'll be seeing you on Tuesday, right mommy?"

Angel nodded and smiled, maybe she could have the dream of a family come true for her....

Tuesday morning came, Gabriel and Angel going to school for only a half day. They arrived a half hour before the appointment. She was lead to a room where she had to put on a gown, Gabriel waiting outside. When she was dressed he came in and sat down beside her, Angel nervous. As they prepped her for the ultra-sound Gabriel spoke sweet words to her in spanish to keep her calm. He didn't know why she was nervous but he hoped he could make it better.

"You ready?", the doctor asked as he began the ultra-sound. Gabriel's eyes widened as he saw the baby's face on the screen. He told Angel to look and when she did, she cried. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. She sighed with relief, expecting to see a small resemblence of Alex. She tightened her grip on Gabriel's hand.

"Now, to see what we have..."

Gabriel stared into the screen in anticipation, feeling Angel tighten her grip.

"I believe we got ourselves a little man. Congratulations!"

The doctor had Angel get dressed again and had the nurse schedule the next appointment. They printed out the pictures of the ultra-sound, Angel still a bit in tears. She was having mixed feelings; happy to know it was healthy, it was a boy and that Gabriel was there with her the whole way. But she was scared.

She took Gabriel's hand and they went home, Gabriel putting a picture of the baby at his work station in the shop. They went upstairs and sat down at the table, Angel calling her father to tell him the news. She called her sister and brother Hector, all of them happy for her. When she hung up the phone she sighed and looked at the pictures again. She smiled, he kind of had her nose and her shape of the face.

"Stop thinking so much Angie. Go rest and we can think of a name for him later."

He kissed her and she went to bed...God why am I afraid?....

She went to school the next day, the look in her eyes was bright. She walked up to Alex's desk and he looked at her and then at the paper she left on his books. She did it quick and went to her seat. Alex looked down at the paper, unfolded it and he felt his heart drop. On the top it said 'Joseph David Rodiguez', written in Angel's handwriting. Rodriguez...that was Gabriel's last name. Alex looked at the baby, not realizing he was tracing the outline of its face with his finger. He couldn't believe that was what he made...by force and in the most cruel way. He felt his face get hot and he put the picture in his binder. Ms. Briggs looked at Angel and then at Alex; Angel calm and collected, Alex about to break down. He asked Ms. Briggs if he could step out and she nodded her head. He walked out of the classroom and went to his locker. He sat down on the floor, not caring if anyone saw him cry. Angel walked out and sat next to him. He wouldn't look at her.

"Well, I guess you got what you wanted. I'm feeling bad."

"That's not what I wanted Alex. I want you to admit what you did and see that kid is yours. Gabriel shouldn't be trying to play daddy to something that isn't his. Do you know what he has to put up with because of us?"

"No one asked him to defend you Angel."

She nodded her head and he looked at her.

"You know what Alex? I'm glad Gabriel is doing this. You're still immature and so self-centered. You don't care about anyone else but yourself."

"I did care about you Angel. I did. I lost myself that night ok...I told you I'm sorry."

"Well start showing it. Actions speak louder then words. Right, Alex?"

She got up and went back to class, Alex remembering how many times he said that to her when he wanted her to prove her love to him. He couldn't believe himself, he couldn't believe how much stronger Angel was. She didn't need anyone anymore to guide her through like she had once needed him. She had Gabriel but she wasn't solely dependant on him. She was stronger than Alex and he realized he couldn't hurt her anymore. She was free.
