Lost Without You Ch.3

Fiction Created on 2-5-08 Views(115) Story Rating G

Angel woke up early the next day for school, Gabriel was sitting down in front of the tv, reading a book. Angel walked into the bathroom and got ready. Gabriel was still reading when she came out of the bathroom. She smiled and walked over to the breakfast he had left for her.

"Eat and relax..I can get us to school in no time.", he said without taking his eyes off the book. Angel couldn't believe he remembered waflles were her favorite. She ate slow, watching him as he concentrated deeply in what he read. She washed the dishes after she ate, grabbing her school bag. He got up, closed the book and stashed it in his bag.

"Ready?", he said smiling. She nodded and he led her out back to his car. They drove off to school where he walked her to her locker. He kept an eye out for Alex or any of his friends.

"Look, if anything happens, you can call me or whatever. I'll come and find you. And if Alex says anything or does anything, let me know. Ok?"

She nodded and he kissed her forehead, walking off to his weight lifting class. Angel sighed and made her way to her english class where Alex would be. She ignored his gaze when she walked in and sat in the far left corner. The teacher, Ms. Briggs, eyed Angel and Alex.

"Angel, that's not your assigned seat."

"I know, but, I can't sit up there anymore."

The teacher motioned for Angel to talk outside, Ms.Briggs giving Alex a cold glance as he tried to follow them.

"You and Alex are having problems?"

"More than that Ms...But it's hard to explain and I just can't be near him..."

"Ok, I don't think Sara will mind changing seats for you. Now, you know Angel, we teachers are here to help."

Angel nodded and walked back into class. She focused all her attention on the lesson and as soon as the bell rang she was out of the class. By lunch Angel was aching to go home, she was regretting to have had scheduled almost alll her classes with Alex when they had been together. But Gabriel will be there at lunch...

"Angie!"

Angel turned around as she walked to the lunchroom. It was Gabriel. She sighed with relief as he approached her. He was out of breathe.

"You ok Gabe? You're out of breathe."

"I just ran a few miles. But anyway, I wanted to know if you minded staying here for lunch. I left my money at home."

"Sure..I get free lunch anyway, we can share."

He put his arm around her waist and they walked into the lunch room. They sat down in his usual table, his friends greeting Angel with open arms. She had never met any of his friends, not after he stopped hanging out with Alex. Gabriel made sure she ate before touching any of the food. Angel was talking to some of the girls at the table when Alex walked up to them.

"Wow, Gabe has the whore hangin' with the church girls. What, are you trying to redeem her Gabe?"

Gabriel slowly stood up and put his hand on Angel's shoulder as he walked towards Alex. Alex was smiling until Gabriel was in front of him, anger in his eyes.

"Angel isn't a whore, Alex...Say it again and I might forget I'm a Christian now. And you know we don't want that. Do I need to remind you of '06? That summer when you slept with my sister?"

Alex stepped back and played it off laughing. He walked away, Gabriel walking back to his seat. Angel stared at him..He was a Christian? She looked around at the people he sat with..They were the ones who she saw preaching sometimes in the street.

"Thanks, Gabe..I'm sorry if I'm bringing you problems."

"No, Angie..You're fine. Alex is my only problem but I don't have to worry about him. Revenge is of God."

She nodded and pretended to agree with him. God...She didn't want to think about God. So she smiled away when Gabriel's friends offered her help in anything she needed and that she was more than welcome to church. Gabriel walked with her to class after lunch, sitting next to her. They had art together. He opened up his notebook and began to draw as the teacher talked about a art show. Angel watched him, he was so careful with everything he did, everything he touched. As the class ended Gabriel had drawn out an angel, its wings black and torn, holding onto an angel with white wings that had a few black feathers still. Angel looked at it as he handed in his homework from the week before, a small comic strip he had never handed in. Angel thought of herself; she was the angel with black wings, holding on to Gabriel; the angel with a few black feathers left. She shook her head and gave him the notebook back.

Gabriel walked her to the car and they went home. She walked ahead of him and entered the apartment as he put his things away. He hopped into the shower as she did her homework, Gabriel singing louder in the shower as he got ready for work. Angel laughed as he walked out of the shower singing to her about her not cleaning and that he wanted her to rest until he came back during his break. She hit him playfully and let him kiss her cheek. She shook her head and smiled as he walked out, leaving her alone. She did her homework and put her school bag away. She cleaned his apartment and folded his clothes and made dinner. She put his Bible on the bed, now she knew what he had been reading that morning. She shook her head when she felt to open it and read it. She walked away and arranged everything on the bureau, smelling his cologne and putting the cap on it. She folded all the clothes in his drawers, making the drawers close correctly. She put her things in the closet and turned the tv on. She shut it off when commercial after commercial was about birth control. She laid on the couch and put her hands on her stomach. She cried softly to herself, wiping her tears when the door opened.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing..Just thinking."

Gabriel sat down on the counter, looking at her and then around his apartment.

"You're thinking whether or not you decided right on keeping that baby?"

She nodded and looked down at the floor.

"Lift your head up ma, that baby is the best of Alex. It's up to you to make this as positive as you can. And you have me now. And damn my place never been this clean."

She laughed and wiped her tears. Gabriel jumped down from the counter and took the lid off the pot.

"Angel...You're insane."

"I still remember your favorites."

Gabriel piled the moro(Dominican rice and beans) on his plate, praying before he ate. Angel waited for him to finish praying to eat. He opened his eyes and started eating, thanking her. She ate slowly, she was feeling a bit dizzy. Gabriel told her he wasn't going to work the night shift anymore.

"I'm going to work everyday now, 6 days a week. From 2 until 6 in the week and then from 8am until 3 on Saturday, Sunday is my day off. I told Nelson I needed to be home more."

She smiled.

"Why?"

"I have to take care of you, remember?"

She smiled and served him more food. She washed dishes as he ate. She dried her hands and leaned against the counter.  Gabriel ran and caught her as she almost fell onto the floor. He held her in his arms, carrying her to the bed. He laid her down and covered her with a sheet. He sat down next to her and fought the urge to hold her hand. Gabriel brushed the curls from her face, Angel slowly opening her eyes. She smiled but then sat up quickly, bringing her knees up to her chest. All she saw was Alex and her clothes on the floor. Alex and that sick smile. She remembered how much pain she felt, the blood on the bed, the bruises and the cuts he gave her.

"Angie, I didn't touch you, I promise. I'm sorry."

Gabriel reached out to her, Angel crying as he sat next to her and held her in his arms. She laid her head on his chest, Gabriel holding her like a baby. He wiped the tears from her eyes.

"You're beautiful, Angel. You're not disgusting, you're so innocent and pure. I promise you I won't let him hurt you again. Just don't hold this in anymore. Let it out ma, I'm here."

Angel cried in his arms, she let out all the pain she had held in. Gabriel just held her tight, his emotions mixed. He felt for her and wanted to make it all better, he also wanted to find Alex and break his face, maybe even kill him. God help me....
