To The End [6]

The rest of the short walk home passed slowly, not that I was complaining. It had stopped raining and I didn't even mind. Conner never let got of my hand. Most of the time it was quiet, but when it wasn't, he was complimenting me in every way possible. Commenting how beautiful my hair was, or saying something about the striking color of my eyes. Each time he said something like this, I blushed. And he would smile and brush my hair awat from my face to look at me, causing my blush to deepen.

When we made it to my doorstep, I turned to say goodbye. But when I saw his face, I couldn't speak. His expression was pained, thought there was a deep longing in his eyes. He took a step closer to me, never taking his eyes from mine. I steped back, pressing myself into my front door, trapping myself. He took another step forward and my mind ran wild.

My previous fears resurfaced as I thought about all the possible ways he could kill me. He could be brutal and to something painful like tear me to shreds, of course, but I would figure that, since he had gotten to know me better, he may make it quicker and painless. Snap my neck, maybe? Or was he heartless and cold? I really didn't know much about him. He could be more of a monster that my mind can dream up.

As I thought about the possible sceanarios of my death, Conner had gotten closer to me, his stone body pressing into mine. He looked down at me, his eyes still pained and desparate. He lowered his face to mine. My breath quickened, waiting for it to all end.

Suddenly, surprising me, he gripped my waist gentally and pressed his lips to mine. I froze. I didn't expect this, not that I didn't like it. His lips were so soft and warm. He pressed me against the door tightly, deepening the kiss. I relaxed and brought my arms up and wrapped them around his neck. This is when he froze.

I felt his lips curve upward against mine as he pulled away. He lingered there, and inch away from my face, for a moment, searching my eyes. I stared back into his. He reached up and pulled my arms from around his neck gentally and brought them down to my sides.

"I'll see you tomarrow, Jamie," He said, his voice now smug. He smiled triumphantly at me and kissed me lightly on the forehead before stepping lightly down the steps of my porch and turning the opposite direction we came from at the end of my driveway.

I stood there for a very long time, staring after him. Did he really just kiss me? Or was that my overly active imagination at work? I tried to remember clearly what just happened, but I couldn't. His scent, his taste, everything about him clouded my mind. I couldn't tell if it had been some wonderful little daydream or not. 

It happened. It had to have. I knew I wasn't afraid of him anymore. There is no way that he would hurt me, I thought. There was something in the way he kissed me that made me sure he could never hurt me.

A sudden rush of pleasure flowed through me. He was interested in me. The thought was extremely flattering. I sighed heavily, leaning against my front door. As I thought about him, I thought about seeing him again. Tomarrow. I smiled to myself as I turned to go into my house.
