Tess went home after spending about 3 hours at Max's place. Max had offered to drive her, but her mom had called and was on her way to pick her up anyway. When Tess got in the car, she refused to meet her mother's stern gaze. She knew she was in trouble for not calling and for not comming strait home after school, but she didn't care. She was just happy that Max was okay.

"Would you like to tell me what happend?" her mom said, her eyes now staring strait forward on the road infront of her. Tess hesitated, not fully sure what she ment. Her voice was too angry to be talking about not comming home on time. "Hu?" was all that came out of Tess' mouth. "You know perfectly well what. First Paul and this...boy-" Her mom nodded her head toward the direction of Max's house. "-Get in a huge fight, then you go to this strange boys' house and decide not to call me! What happend?" Her mom stared at Tess now.

"Um," Tess started, trying to scramble a excuse together. "It was nothing. Paul just got mad at Max about something. They wouldn't tell me." Okay that's good. No need for anymore explaination, Tess thought to herself. Her mom thought for a second and then nodded. "Okay, if your going to go somewhere after school, you know you call me first," She said bleakly. Tess nodded and jumped out of the car when she noticed they were home.

*****Paul's POV *****

I need to see her, Paul thought over and over again. I need to talk to her. He was sprawled out on his bed, just thinking. He wanted so badly to talk to her, to apologies again, and to ask for an explaination. How could she do this to him? She could have said something. He felt horrible of course, but that hatred he felt for himself didn't extinguish the hurt and confusion pulsing through him.

He abruptly sat up right and reached for his phone. He dialed Tess' number.

Ring

Ring

Ri-

"Hello?" He heard Tess' voice say. His heart skipped a beat.
"Hey," Her said slowly.
"Oh, hey Paul," she answered, seeming disappointed.
"Um...Can we talk?"
She paused for a second. "Yeah, sure. Go ahead."
"I was thinking we could, like...go somewhere," Paul said hopefully.
"Oh, um, alright. Where?"
"Not sure yet," Paul said. "I'll pick you up in a little bit."
"Yeah, okay. Bye." Tess said quickly.
"Bye." She had already hung up.
