Tess' heart was racing. She didn't know what had just happend. Did Max just ask her out? Were they going on a real date? Were they going out now? As she though about it all, her smile never left her face. But then she thought. Paul.

Oh god, she thought. What am I going to do? He had just asked her out, too and she said she'd think about it. If she was going on a date with Max, then she had pretty much made her mind up, hadn't she?

Tess decided to let all those negitive thoughts leave her mind and just go out and have fun with Max tonight. Maybe this was exactly what she needed, considering all the stress she has been under lately.

She imidiatly jumped in the shower and washed her hair and body, letting the hot water soke into her skin, relaxed every muscle. Screw Paul, she thought. I'm not officially going out with him anyways. I shouldn't feel bad.

Her mind wandered off again onto Max. Where is he going to take me? I wonder if he is thinking of this as a date. Is this just a friendly get together? She figured, since she wasn't even sure if it was a date, she would wear casual, yet nice clothes, so not to over do it.

She hopped out of the shower, dryed herself off and walked over to her dresser. She slipped simple pink, cotton panties and a simple white, lacey bra, its not like she was going to take her clothes off tonight, right?

Tess quickly grabbed a pair of tight, dark wash skinny jeans. She walked over to her closet and pulled out a lacey black camie and pulled a white V-neck hoodie over it. She blowed her hair strait and did her make up really quick. By the time she was finished, it was about 6:50. She looked at herself in the mirror for a long time, hoping she looked good enough for...whatever she was going to do.

She heard the door bell ring and heard he mom rush to the door, so as "not to keep guests waiting." Tess took a deep breath and took one last look in the mirror. This is it, she thought as she grabbed her cell. She slipped it in her pants pocket and started toward the stairs.

Max took a deep breath. He was parked outside Tess' house, just sitting there, thinking, and trying to get the nerve to go up to the door. This was a mistake, he told himself. I shouldn't have asked her out. She probibly doesn't think of this as a date. I am so fucked.

Max figured that there was no turning back now, so he opened the car door and walked up to the house. Tess' house was huge, much bigger than his. He found himself shaking a bit. He pulled himself together just enough to ring the door bell. He heard a shuffle of feet comming from inside.

The door flung open and there stood a middle aged woman with soft brown curls framing her "was once very pretty" face. She had a huge smile on her face. He looked at her with confussion. "Um, is Tess her-" is all he could get out before Tess flew down the stairs and pulled her mom away from the door.

"Mom, this is Max. Max, this is my mom," she said quickly, turning from one of them to the other. "Lets go," she said urgently, obviously in a rush to get out of there. "Alright, hunny! You kids have fun," he mom shouted from the doorstep as they made their way to the car. "Kisses!"

When they were finally in the car, Max looked at Tess, who had her eyes closed. She seemed very stressed. "What was that about," Max asked with a small chuckle. It was sort of amusing to him. Tess looked over at him, and smiled. "Oh, well, my mom is really...annoying, I guess is the right word," she said giggling a little bit. "Oh," he said, with an amused smile on his face. "Well, should we go now?" Tess nodded with a small smile. 

He stuck the key in the ignition and with a rumble, he backed out of the driveway. He gave her a side glance. She looked so, serean, angelic even. Her eyes were clouded over and she had a small, almost naturally-there smile on her face. He never saw her like this at school. She was always stress, uptight or depressed. Right now, she was none of the above. Max liked seeing her like this.

Tess felt all tingley everywhere. It was crazy how she was sitting in a car with Max and she wasn't sweating like crazy. She though she would. She was just sitting there quietly, staring at passing buildings and trees, completely content with everything around her.

She saw Max staring at her from the corner of her eye. "What," she said with a little giggle. Max just stared at her like she was the most interesting thing on the planet. "I don't know," he said airily, looking at the rode then back at her. "You seem different," he said, fixing his gaze back on her. Tess felt her face get hot and she knew she was blushing. "Is that bad," she said, her smile fading slightly. Max's eyes widened slightly and he laughed, "No, not at all."

Tess smiled to herself and proceeded to look out the window. What's so different about me? Is it that I'm less nervous? She thought. Had he noticed how calm and cool she was being. "Hey, you never told me where we are going," she said, breaking the silence.

Max smiled and took his eyes off the rode for a moment to look at her. "I told you," he said with a sly smile. "Its a surprise."

Max saw a smile creep across Tess' Face. "Ugh, fine, be that way," she said jokingly and she stuck her tounge out at him. He laughed a little at her. She's so adorable, he thought.

Finally, they arived at in a parking lot. Tess was about to snap out of her daze and open the car door when Max reached over and covered her eyes. A giggle escaped Tess' mouth. "What are you doing?" she asked, still giggling.

"I told you it was going to be a surprise," Max said. "I'm going to go around and open the door for you, but only if you promise not to peak." He still had his hand over her eyes.

Tess giggled again and nodded. Max took his hand away and Tess kept her eyes closed. He stepped out of the car and walked around and open Tess' door. He took her hand off her lap and helped her out. The feeling of her hand in his gave him chills. Her small, soft hand seemed to fit so well in his large rough ones.

She stepped out of the car and faced him, her eyes still closed and her hand still in his. "Can I open my eyes now," she asked with a little smile. Max chuckled. "No, I said no peaking. Here," he said as he turned her gentaly in the direction they were supposed to walk. She stood in place as he wrapped his arms around her and covered her eyes. She was so warm and she smelled like vanilla. He breathed her everything.

"Ha, alright, you lead the way," she said with a little chuckle. She began to walk, but he steered her in the right way, her body moving with his.

Tess could feel his strong arms wrapped around her. She didn't care where they were going, but she hoped it was far away so he could hold her like this forever. She felt so safe, warm and protected from anything that was in her way.

Suddenly, startling Tess, Max stopped walking. They must be there. "Can I look now?" Tess said sweetly as she reached up and touched his arm, which was drapped over her shoulder. She felt him melt when she touched him. "Yeah, you can look," he whisperd softly in her ear as he droped his hands from her eyes to her shoulders...
