Why I hate Valentine's Day?

     For those who don't know me, I'm not the type of person who gets all Gah Gah over the holidays. Infact, to me, they're just a big waste of time for the MOST part. Today in particular, I will be talking about Valentine's day and its effect on society.(I did an "article" on this last year on Zach's site but can't find it) By the way, I realize this topic won't be popular with like 99% of the ladies. I'm aware and totally over it.

     The main reason I hate Valentine's day is because Halmark, Hershey's, every flower shop in America, and the public, is basically making "love" a one day event. If you can't show your partner that you love them the other 364 days of the year and have to devote all that love that one day, then what is the point?! You got to be kidding me. If I were a guy, which contrary to popular belief I indeed am, then I would show girl "X" how I cared for her on some random ass day, one she wouldn't have no idea about, and set up suprises that way. Hell, if I ever cared for a girl that much, then shouldn't I show her love every day? Come on.

     Why is it that guys spend more than girl's on Valentine's day? Shouldn't it be a double standard? Oh wait. I get it. They guy buys the girl chocolates and flowers and other things and the guy just gets laid. You kidding me? This is what love is?! And to do it on some socially constructed concept of a holiday is just a bit mindboggeling to me.

     Another thing I hate is all the people who feel they HAVE to have a girlfriend or boyfriend on Valentine's day. Now, I would say this is girls more so than guys and younger moreso than older, but it still effects people of all ages. Society is basically telling you that you have to have someone on this holiday to celebrate it with. Again, another way to get money. But some people take this so literally were they'll find anyone and I mean anyone to be their "Valentine". It's so sad. It really is. You might as well get a male or female hooker, take them to dinner, say "I love" you, then get pitty fucked for money and call them "Your Valentine".

     Now, why is it that kid's are getting Valentines and handing them out? I thought this was supposed to be a romantic holiday. Are we trying to say that the love we give to our spouses or girlfriends/boyfriends is catagorically different then the love we give to our kids our siblings? That's what it seems like to me. And all the more reason the holiday is a joke that everyone has basically brainwashed in since they were kids.(Just like millions of other things.) Little Susie has a crush on little Billy so she shows her "love" by giving him a cheap paper valentine made in china that says somthing corny like, "Be my valentine" or "It's not you, it's just me".(That's a break up one. OH MY GOD)

     Cupid? Give me a break. Oh let me guess, The thought of a naked baby with a weapon shooting unsuspected victims on the corner and having them fall in love is "cute". Cute? More like sickening. Why don't we give the little sucker an AK while we're at it. We might as well just go ahead and "Rent a bride" because that's were the true love is at. LOTTO anyone??

     Let me get this straight. I'm not one of those types of people who hates or dislikes Valentine's day just because I don't have a girlfriend or think love is just crazy or is just some dark person. Cause that's not it. If I had a girlfriend around this time, then I'd hope she'd at least understand my stance or even agree and believe that this "love" shouldn't be devoted towards this one commericalized day. I understand why a lot of people and couples like it, but I'm just saying that shouldn't it be "Valentine's Day" every day? Opposed to what the day is like to a lot of guys which is "Here baby, here's some candy and some flowers. Sorry for being an ass. Lets fuck." That's what I basically see out of this holiday. Next up to bag on, St. Patricks day!!
