The Blink of an Eye Pt. 8

Drama Created on 1-15-08 Views(66) Story Rating G

Arden sat silently on the bed, there was nothing to pack, nothing to do.  A soft knock sounded and James entered, figures that Lysander would not even come to see her off.  A clean break apparently, Arden sighed, standing, for a moment she wished she had a camera, something to remember this place.  With her memory the walls would soon fade and even Lysander's face would eventually be gone.  With her luck only Josef would remain with her, her very own personal demon.
"He's not coming?" she questioned James.
"No," he said shaking his head.
"Right."  Arden followed James into the hall not allowing one last look back, these things you had to do quickly, like a band-aid.  The journey to the doors was not nearly long enough, there was one more surprise in store, however.
"You'll need to put this on," James murmured holding out a blindfold.
"Are you serious?" Arden's voice was laced with incredulity.  James frowned, but nodded.  He slipped it over her eyes and Arden was disappointed to note that she could not see a single thing.  Hands on her shoulders guided her out the door and into crisp air, a breeze came lifting her hair slightly, and the hands lifted off.  "James?" she questioned loudly, sure he wouldn't pull this kind of joke on her.  Her answer was the chuckle that was she was positive would haunt her.  Before she could rip off the blindfold and run she was knocked to the ground.  A heavy shoe on her neck further distracted her from the blindfold, Arden struggled to breathe, hoping it would end soon.  A surge of something inside her made her buck trying to live past this moment.  Unfortunately there was no swell of music or heroic success, the foot remained firmly in place.  She couldn't tell if her vision was going fuzzy or not, due to the blindfold.
"Josef!"  The yell was sharp and the foot lifted off.  Arden rolled to her side and coughed.  She finally pulled off the blindfold and watched Lysander and Josef who appeared to be in an epic stand off.
"No..." escaped her raw throat.  Her nightmare wasn't coming true, no, this was far worse.
