The Blink of an Eye

Drama Created on 12-4-07 Views(144) Story Rating G

Arden woke slowly, her whole body throbbed.  What had happened?  Where was she?  Right here of course, but the question is where is here? With a certain amoutn of difficulty, she sat up, there was a rich, hand- woven rug beneath her.  She was on the floor of a cold room, dim torches lined the walls, what, had she fallen into the sixteenth century?  She still couldn't remember what had happened, everything was fuzzy in her head.  Opening her mouth to stretch her cheeks she winced in pain, she could feel multiple contusions on her face, and exploring farther she discovered a good sized lump on the back of her head.  Her brain switched into overdrive, she had gotten up, and then... God, what had happened?  Had she been kidnapped?  Snatched off the street like a child?  No, surely there would be some flash of memory if that had occured.  She stood and paced for a few moments, but that wasn't doing any good at all.  She searched in vain for her purse, nowhere.  Her hands felt down to her pocket, no phone.  That meant that she must have arrived safely at work, she usually put it in her desk, had she?  Tiring of the guessing game she headed for the door.  It was anything but plain and upon trying to pull it open Arden discovered two things.  One: the door was very thick and heavy.  Two: Her right arm was broken, she'd been too focused to notice it, not surprising.  But, now with the knowledge of it her arm throbbed as well.  More than anything she wanted to break down and cry, but that was what weak people did, and she was atrong.  She managed the door with her left arm and stepped into the hallway, only to discover more torches and cold stone.  Silently she crept about looking for any sign of escape, but the place was friggin huge!  She didn't call out, that just begged the psycho axe murderer to come out swinging.  Somewhere ahead of her a door opened and a distinctly male shadow emerged.  Shit shit shit!  She froze but it was as if he could smell her, his head immediatley swiveled towards her.  It was then that the memories came flooding back, his cold eyes as he attaked her.  They were worse than ones filled with hate, they were eyes that just didn't care.  One knee gave out and she nearly toppled.  Faster than a breath being taken his hands were clamped cruelly on her arms, keeping her upright.  The edges of her vision faded to black and she tried to stop it, she had to run, he would surely kill her.  She could not, with her last waking breath was spent on him, "Who are you?"  She recieved no reply, and could only stare into those eyes for a moment longer.  Then, she knew nothing else.

CaPlanePourToi Oh, p.s-I had thought of using the name "Arden" in a story, because it means Ardnent [sp?] in Italian. How did you come across it?

CaPlanePourToi This is really good. I liked. It may be a personal preference, but make paragraphs, not just a chunk. It's easier to read, and signals the reader to changing thoughts or movements.
