I sat down at a table a little ways away. Isaac sat down next to me. “What happened?” he asked. “Looks like you and Callum got in a fight.”
I sighed. “It’s nothing. He was bugging me.”
Isaac raised his eyebrows, about to comment, but then paused, taking in the faint smell of rotting flesh that clung to all necromancers. We looked around and realized whom it was. Mr. Frakid, the necromancer we had stolen from five years ago. Holly slid into a seat next to me. “What’s he doing here?” She asked quietly.
“I don’t know. Isaac, are you ok?” Isaac was staring at Mr. Frakid in horror, eyes wide and mouth slightly open. He shook his head slightly with out glancing at us.
I could feel Callum behind me. I wasn’t sure when he had come over, but it seemed he was willing to join us, even after our fight. The necromancer looked around, gaze finally settling on our table. He smiled slightly. “Finally,” he breathed. He raised his eyes to the ceiling and started chanting something in Latin. Lightening bolt began to form, and gathering at his hand. He seemed to be supercharging himself.
“No,” Isaac gasped. Before the necromancer had aimed, Isaac had jumped off his chair, knocking Holly off hers. The necromancer lowered his arm, pointing it at the chair where Holly had been a second before. He couldn’t change his direction, so he only burned a hole through the chair. Isaac looked up and mumbled a spell, throwing what looked like a shimmering net over the necromancer. “Run!” he shouted, dragging Holly out the back door. Callum and I followed, shocked by Isaacs prompt action. We sprinted outside, following him back to Holly’s house. Once we were upstairs we stopped, all staring at Isaac.
“What the hell was that about?” Callum asked. “How did you know he was going to go for Holly?”
Isaac stepped back, away from us. “I don’t know. I – you know that headache I had yesterday, where I said I saw something?”
I frowned. “But you said you couldn’t remember – whatever it is you saw.”
“I couldn’t. But then, I saw him, and it all sort of came rushing back. And I didn’t know all of it, but I knew he was going to go for Holly.”
“Well then,” Holly said. “It seems I owe you a thank you for saving my life. So… thanks.”
Isaac grinned. “You’re welcome.”
“Where’d you learn that spell?” Callum asked him distrustfully. “It reeked of necromancy.”
“It did not!” Isaac protested. “It was a shield spell, to confuse him enough get away. I’m glad it worked, I’ve never actually tried it before.”
“You risked our lives on a spell you’d never tried before?” Callum asked.
“Yes, Callum. But it was a hell of a lot more than you did. Now, I’m tired, and confused, and I don’t want to fight with you. I’m going to bed.” Isaac left, rubbing his head.
Callum scowled. “I’m going to bed too.”
Holly turned to me. “Did you see Callum’s face when you attacked him? It was priceless!”
“Holly, you almost got fried into nothingness by a crazed necromancer and you want to talk about how Callum and I got into an argument?”
“But he was so shocked! You wounded him deeper than a blade ever could.”
“Woah, wait, Holly, what the hell are you talking about?”
Holly sighed dramatically. “Isn’t it obvious, Lori? Callum is head over heels on love with you.”
I laughed. “Are you kidding?  He hates me.”
“Love’s weird like that. But trust me on this, Callum has totally got the hots for you.”
I grinned. “Really Holly, is that a phrase you could realistically apply to either me or Callum?”
“Lori! You’re thinking to literally! Trust me and stop asking questions!”
I rolled my eyes. “Holly, you’re weird. I’m going to bed.”
