Vampire Story part 17

The next morning, Holly decided to make breakfast.
“You eat human food?” Callum asked with some disgust.
“Why not? It’s interesting, and a change. Blood is only good for so long. When did you last even try eggs?”
Callum opened his mouth, then shut it, then opened it again. “A while.”
“Then don’t complain.”
Holly went all out, covering the entire table with eggs, bacon, toast, and, of course, blood. We all sat down, Isaac seemed to have recovered from his headache last night. He wasn’t in a very good mood, but was at least being civil.
Callum picked up a piece of bacon, eyeing it tentatively.
“It’s called bacon, Callum. Pig meat.” I told him, laughing at his expression.
“I know what it is,” he retorted. “I was wondering if Holly made it edible.”
“Haha,” Holly said sarcastically. “Just try it.”
Callum did, and paused. “At least it’s not disgusting.” He set it down at reached for his glass. It had barely touched his lips before he let out a howl that rattled the lights. He fell backwards, shoved away from the table. “Oww! Goddamn it Holly!”
“Who’s the weakling now?” Isaac asked quietly. “Did the smell of blood make little Callum cringe?”
“I’m sorry! I’m sorry!” Holly shrieked. “I didn’t mean to! I forgot! Really!”
Callum didn’t even answer back. He just pushed himself into a sitting position and sat, staring at the wall. “God, this fucking sucks,” he moaned. “My head hurts, and I’m hungry, and blood still seems so natural I’ll try to drink it anyway.”
“Not to mention your bruised ego,” Holly piped up.
Callum dropped his head in his hands, so the words came out muffled. “Just kill me and get it over with. I need a drink.” He looked so pitiful and frail, somehow. Any of us could have adapted to not being able to drink human blood, anyone except Callum. It really was the perfect punishment. How, I wondered, how did this necromancer know what to curse him with? Why him?
Holly took a much less sympathetic view. “You. Are. Not. Getting. A. Drink.” She told him fiercely. “You are getting over this if I have to tie you to a chair.”
Isaac leaned in next to me and whispered, “Did I miss something?”
“Callum got cursed so he can’t drink human blood.” I whispered back.
“Oh. When?”
“A year and a half ago. It was the necromancer we-” I paused, thinking. Callum had never actually said which necromancer had cursed him. “It was either the necromancer we were stealing for, or the one we were stealing from. I’m still a bit fuzzy on that. Callum reckons it’s because that orb got smashed. “
Isaac groaned. “You mean he had a good reason for hating me all along?”
I sighed. “Looks like it.”
“Oh, well now I feel like an ass. He was justified after all.” He spoke up, interrupting Holly, who was arguing with Callum. “Holly, do you have a library?”
She turned, a little surprised by his question. “Um, yeah, first door on the left, down the hall.”
“Thank you,” Isaac said, turning to leave. He disappeared into library, where I knew we wouldn’t see him emerge from for hours.

Several days passed, in which Holly insisted on getting Callum new clothes and putting him on drinking ban. I settled into the nocturnal schedule which Holly and Callum easily followed, although I missed the daylight.
Everything was mildly uneventful, mostly stemming from the fact that Isaac and Callum rarely saw each other. Callum remained in his room, sulking, or, occasionally, just thinking. Isaac remained in the library, detached from everything. None of us knew what he was doing, although he had complained at one point about Holly having an insufficient Latin dictionary. Every evening he would quarantine himself in complete silence, leaving only to get food. The silence lasted until a midnight, five days after we started staying with Holly.
I heard a piercing scream coming from the library, and rushed in to find Isaac curled on the floor, clutching his head. He yelled again, bringing Holly into the room. “What’s going on?” she asked, just as Isaac started yelling “Noooooo! Nooo! Stop!”
“Another migraine, huh?” Holly asked. “Looks a little bit beyond that.”
I knelt down beside him. “I don’t know. Isaac. Isaac, wake up! Listen to me-” Isaac yelled again, and flailed wildly, nearly hitting me. I repeated myself. “Isaac, wake up. Can you hear me? Wake up”
Isaac twitched again, and then lay still.
Holly knelt down as well. “You sure that’s a migraine? They’re not fun, but they never put a normal person on the ground, kicking and screaming. Did this ever happen before?”
“No, it’s never been this bad before. I don’t understand. I would think that becoming a vampire would cure him of this. It doesn’t make any sense. Let’s wait for him to wake up.”
It took only five minutes for Isaac to wake up. He gasped looking around. “What are you doing here? Why am I on the floor?”
“Maybe you can tell us that. We heard you yell, and came in. You are the one who fell off the chair.” Holly told him.
Isaac took a deep breath, trying to remember. “I was starting to get a headache, but I thought it was just because I hadn’t slept in a while. I ignored it, and kept reading, Suddenly, the pain got really bad, and I must have collapsed. But I saw – things. I don’t remember them now, not much, I couldn’t concentrate on them through the pain. I know there was a man, a tall one, and some lightening, and then I blacked out. But it hurt, it-” he shuddered. “It was weird. But I’m probably just tired.”
I had been examining Isaac work, pages and pages of notes, and had noticed a pattern. “Isaac, what’s this?” I asked.
