Vampire Story part 13
|
Over the next few weeks I grew restless, and I could tell Isaac was too. There was no reason for either of us to stay here, so I wasn’t surprised when Isaac brought it up.
“Lori,” he asked, “Can we leave?”
I smiled, knowing it was coming. “I don’t see why not. Why don’t we go to Europe?”
“Cool. I’d like that. What about Italy?”
We made plans to go to Italy, but not stay too long in any one spot. …
We arrived in Italy and went to Il Consacrare, one of the largest vampire haunts in the world. Consacrare is Italian for “consecration”. Yes, I see the irony in that. Hundreds of vampires had visited here and any vampire who reached their five hundredth year visited here in an unwritten tradition. The only reason that it hadn’t been discovered was because the killings were few and far between. Killing in a 10-mile radius was technically illegal (the owners of the haunt offered a horrible death to anyone who tried), which cut down on homicides a lot. I had never been, and was just a curious about it as Isaac.
I entered the Il Consacrare, looking around. My breath caught in my throat. Across the room from us, sitting on a solitary bar stool, was Callum. As the memories crashed over me, I realized I had forgotten how much I missed him. Isaac turned at my abrupt silence.
“What?” he followed my gaze “Oh…”
I walked toward him in a daze. It was almost surreal that we would meet each other after almost five years. We approached the bar nervously. “Hi Callum,” I said, almost whispering.
He looked up and frowned at me, as if trying to remember. He smelled of months of alcohol, and seemed pretty drunk. “Lori?” he croaked. “Who’s that?”
Isaac spoke up. “I’m Isaac.”
Callum frowned again. “Who?”
“Isaac, September 2003, Orb of Phylenus. I smashed it.”
Callum’s eyes slid out of focus. “Isaac?” He had done a really good job of getting himself drunk.
Isaac nodded
“Isaac, you son of a bitch!” Callum yelled before launching himself off the stool at Isaac. Before I knew what was happening, Callum was on top of Isaac, punching every part of him that he could reach. “I’m going to kill you! You’re going to fucking die!” He yelled at the top of his lungs.
I considered trying to stop him, but decided against it. In this temper, Callum could probably take me down. He could take me down at any point, actually. And it looked like Isaac could hold his own. He had kicked Callum off now, and they circled each other warily. Callum was the first to move, launching himself at Isaac, who easily flipped him over. In normal circumstances, Callum would probably have won, but it smelled like he’d been drinking for close to a year. He jumped up, charging Isaac again. He threw a couple punches before flipping Isaac across the room. Isaac slid down the wall before jumping back up into the fight. Shocked as he was, he seemed to have recovered enough to try to beat Callum to a pulp. After that they were moving to fast for me to see, just twisting bodies. Suddenly, Callum was on the floor, Isaac pinning him down with his foot on Callum’s chest. Isaac was holding a broken chair leg, and gripped it tightly as he pointed it straight at Callum’s heart. He hesitated for a fraction of a second before plunging it deep into Callum’s heart.
