I grabbed Sarah as she was closer to me than to Maggie and I could get to her the quickest. He glared at us, looking us up and down. He looked like he was under the influence of something, what, I have no idea. Maggie, Sarah and I all backed away from the man until we were backed into a corner.
"What do you want Jason?" she asked. I was amazed that she knew this person. This person that had broken into my home and was threatening us with a knife. maybe it was a bad idea that I had gotten in the middle of all of this. I felt so helpless. I covered Sarah's eyes. She should not have been subjected to this.
The man hid the knife behind his back "Sarah, come here and see your uncle Jason. Ive missed you hunny!" he said
I held her tight so she couldnt walk over to him. He said, "let her go or you will regret it." I believed that he would do something so I let her go and she walked over to him unafraid
Maggie glared at him, "Please leave her alone Jason. Shes a good kid and she needs to be with her mother. dont scare her."
He completly ignored Maggie. he picked her up. As he headed out the door I heard Sarah saying, "where are we going uncle Jason?" I could hear him talking to her but it was muffled because he was closing the door behind him.
Maggie peeled the door open to follow him almost in a complete sprint. "Maggie you know what im holding and you wouldnt want you or little sarah getting hurt do you?"
"How would i get hurt?" Sarah asked. At least she didnt realize that she was being kidnapped. Maggie said, "you wont hunny go with uncle jason I will come get you later."
I was astonished that she was letting her daughter go with this man. I ran to get my phone as Maggie came back inside. She looked pale and drained. "Im calling the police I said."
Maggie grabbed the phone out of my hand. "there's no use. Jason is a cop. He will lie and get out of anything."
"then what should we do?" I asked. She sat on the couch, with tears welling in the corners of her eyes. "i dont know, just let me think" she managed to squeeze out. I could tell she was having a hard time holding her tears in.
By this time I was pacing not knowing what to do. I was feeling out of control and I never feel that way. I hate not being in control of situations especially like this one. I felt sick to my stomach. I could only imagine how Maggie was feeling, knowing that her daughter that she loved so much had been taken away right in front of her and there was nothing that she could do.
Maggie's phone rang. She rumaged through her purse quickly and pulled it out. She answered and I could hear Sarah's voice. "Hi mommy, Uncle Jason took me to see daddy and we are going to get icecream. I think Im going to get m&m doesnt that sound yummy?"
"where are you right now hunny?" Maggie asked
"We are on our way to Giffords mommy. Uncle Jason is so funny he is playing games with other cars and going really fast. Im having so much fun" I didnt think Maggie could get anymore pale than she was before but she proved me wrong. She looked like she was in agony.
"ok hunny I love you and miss you a whole bunch let me talk to Uncle Jason...... Jason what the hell are you doing. Please slow down with her in the car."
"what am i worrying you Maggie? Dont worry she is fine. Im dropping her off with Josh after. She needs her dad so dont try anything, or you know what will happen... Remember last July?" The phone hung up and Maggie started crying.
