Jake sat under the onning in front of the closedd pizza parlor. It wasa pouring rain and it was a cold New York evening. He huddled in his hoodie. He wasa 13 now. Two years in the streets gave him some ways to get food and survive, but just barely. Someone came out of the backery across the street. It was a man, it looked like he was about 34, and was wearing a black trenchcoat and glasses. He wasalked across the street.

Once he got to the corner he turned and walked past the pizza place. Many people just walked right past him. They could care less about a starving homeless teenager.

Jake cleared his throat as the man walked passed. The man stopped and turned around. He was carrying a box with two coffees and some donougts, and a blue umbrella. He looked down at Jake,

"Oh my god, how old are you?" He asked.

"I'm 13 sir." The man looked shocked. He took Jake's hand and pulled him up under the umbrella

"Here, do you want a donougt, some coffee?" Jake was startled, no one had ever helped him like this before. He was just another homeless boy and this man, this random man, was here offering him food and a hot drink,

"I don't drink coffee sir, but i will now. Thank you." Was all Jake could say. The man nodded and handed Jake a donougt and a cup of hot coffee.

"How about you come to my apartment. I can give you a good bed to sleep in." He said. Jake nodded,

"Thank you sir!" This was like nothing he'd seen before. This stranger was here offering him food and shelter.

"Well let's go." The man said, and they walked down the road. After a little Jake looked up and said,

"Sir, what's your name?" The man looked at him,

"I'm John Dellmoor. But you can call me John." And together they walked through the pouring streets of New York.
