Cam sat at the edge of her bed, her feet swinging back and forth lazily while she waited for Lohin to return. She didn’t have a clock in here so she wasn’t sure how long Lohin had actually been gone for but she was sure it was at least twenty minutes.

"What the hell are they talking about?" She muttered, slipping off her bed and heading to her door. If they weren’t planning on coming back anytime soon then she decided to explore to see if she could find the Dining hall. It wasn’t time for dinner but that didn’t mean she couldn’t find someone to direct her to her father and step mother.

As Cam finally found the stairs, she couldn’t help but giggle as she pretended she was wearing an elegant dress and descending the stairs slowly, one foot in front of the other, her hand barley resting on the rail as she held her head high. As she got to the last step and jumped off like a child, someone started clapping.

Cam squeaked, jumping as she whirled around to see her step mother standing off to the side. Wow, she’s pretty. Cam thought, Must be how Dar got his good looks too. Of course, dad’s handsome as well. Shaking her head, she placed a hand over her chest.

"You scared me." She stated, giving her step mother a small smile.

Marrin smiled, "I’m sorry dear." She said, as she walked over to Cam. "But you were doing such a good job I didn’t want to disturb you. Though we must work on your final step, that was rather, childish." Marrin teased.

Cam’s nearly turned as red as a rose, "You saw all that?" She asked, "I was only pretending."

"Well sooner then you expect you’re going to be walking down stairs like normally." Marrin stated, as she motioned for Cameron to follow her.

"I know." Cam muttered quietly, feeling as if she been caught stealing a cookie from the cookie jar. Though to be honest, she didn’t know why.

"Don’t sound so glum, child." Marrin scolded lightly, though there was still a smile on her pretty face. "Being a Princess is something every child wishes, you just get the special chance to actually become one."

"I know," Cam stated once more, "It’s just I’m nervous. What if I screw up or no one likes me?" Cam blurted. She didn’t know where it came from but the fears that had been eating her apart inside suddenly burst forward in the presence of her step mother.

"I was nervous too." Marrin stated, "When I met your father. Terrified actually."

"You were?" Cam stated surprised.

"Well of course!" The older women exclaimed, "I was coming to a new kingdom, to be married to a man who ruled over all fairies and not just a small section as my father did."

Cam nodded and Marrin seemed to understand that she didn’t want to talk anymore at the moment. Cam was quiet for the rest of the stroll and it wasn’t until she smelt the delicious smells of roasted ham and bread did she snap back to her thoughts. They were in the Dining Hall and the table was full of food.

When did we get here? She thought, as she followed Marrin and took her seat across from Dar. She felt out of place in her normal everyday Human clothes and wondered how long her clothes were going to take being tailored, but when she noticed Dar was wearing an Avenge Sevenfold T-shirt and jeans she didn’t feel so out of place. Earlier he had been wearing something similar to her father, when had he changed?

"Cam." Dar stated, as she sat down. "Do I look normal to you?"

Cam blinked, half way in between sitting in her seat and standing. "What?" She asked, confused as she stared at her brother.

Dar sighed as if annoyed, but then he cleared his throat and asked again. "Do I look normal to you? Would I stand out in Human world?"

"No," Cam stated, "You look good in fact. Where’d you get the clothes?"

"Lohin." Dar replied. The way he had said his name made it seem like he really didn’t want to wear his clothes but didn’t have a choice. "His parents wouldn’t allow him to go back to the Human world so soon as he has things here he has to deal with but Mother and Father have agreed to let you come back with me."

"Just us?" Cam asked, even more surprised now. How the hell was she going the manage that? Spending the next few days in the Human world with her new brother.

"Yes, just you dear." Her father stated, and Cam jumped slightly. She’d completely forgotten her father and step mother were in the room. Damn their quiet. She muttered to herself, Gotta remember that.

"Really?" Cam asked now, a smile gracing her lips. Minus that fact that Dar was coming with her, she was going back to the Human world! She’d be able to go back to school for a bit and explain to her friends and the police, if they hadn’t already assumed she’d ran on murder charges, why she’d left.

Her father nodded again and Cam nearly squealed in happiness. "When do we leave."

"Right after dinner." Dar replied.

"So that’s what you were talking about with Lohin." Cam replied, "You going in his place with me back to the Human world."

Dar paused in taking a sip in his drink and then nodded, but Cam had noticed. The way he paused made her think that wasn’t what he was talking about but she’d bug him about it later, when they were alone.

As Cam stepped through the portal she reappeared back into her bedroom at Lohin’s place. She hadn’t realized she’s missed it so much in those few hours of being in the Fairy world.

As if reading her mind, Dar answered her. "You’ve been gone for almost a week. A few hours in Fairy world is days here."

"What?!" Cam screamed and Dar had to cover his ears from it.

"Now the police are definitely going to be looking for me!"

"Relax." Dar stated, sitting on her bed. "We had Lohin’s parents come back briefly and explain to them that you suddenly fell ill after your mothers death. They told him you’d be unable to come in for questioning for about a week."

"So then, I’m okay?" Cam asked, regaining her normal breathing pattern. Dar nodded and Cam sighed. "Good." She muttered and after a brief pause she stated, "School?"

"School’s been taken care of but if you want to go back tomorrow I’ll come with you."

"How?" She asked, "Lohin’s not here and you wouldn’t be in any of my classes."

"I can make people think what I want them to Cameron. I’ll be fine." Dar stated, leaning back in her bed. It took Cam a minute to realize that she had a guy in her bed.

"Hey!" She stated, grabbing a pillow from her futon and chucking it at Dar, "Get off!" Dar laughed and something pulled at Cam’s chest but she ignored it. "You get the futon." She stated, pointing towards it.

Dar sighed, but rolled off his sister’s bed and flopped down on the futon, one leg spread out in front of him the other bent and resting against the floor. "So what are you going to do now?" Dar asked, finding her TV remote and turning it on. Cam was amazed he even knew what a TV was but then she realized, Dar must have been here before, just like Lohin and the others.

Cam couldn’t help but stare at Dar, her eyes roaming over his form before she cleared her throat, turned on her heel and found her camera.

"What are you doing?" Dar asked, moving up to lean on one elbow and stare at Cam’s back.

"Well, the first thing I’m going to do is this-" She stated, whirling around and taking a picture of a confused Dar. Cam laughed as she looked back at the review. Dar looked hilarious, his mouth slightly open as she stared at the camera, his hair ruffled a bit and clothes a mess. "Perfect." She stated, turning the camera off and then grabbing her phone.
"Let me see it." Dar stated, holding his hand out for the camera.

"No." Cam stated, shaking her head as she sat down on her bed. "I’m doing to make a phone call. Don’t even think about going near the camera."

Dar scowled but stood anyway heading for the camera that rested on Cam’s desk. As the phone rang, Cam took the same pillow she’d thrown before and chucked it at Dar. It hit him square in the side of the head, earning Cam an ‘oomph’ and a teetering Dar. She laughed as Dar threw the pillow back at her, and it hit her in the face.

"Hello?" A voice stated on the other end and Cam tried to halt her giggles.

"Is Meg there?" Cam asked.

"One moment." A woman spoke and Cam realized it was Meg’s mom. Mom… Cam thought suddenly, an overwhelming dread washing over her. She could feel another onset of tears coming but she tried to hold them back as Meg answered the phone. Dar, no longer in the mood to see what he looked like on the camera, sat down next to Cam and placed a hand on her shoulder giving her a small squeeze and a smile.

‘You’ll be fine.’ He mouthed to her and Cam nodded.

"Hello?" A voice asked as Cam cleared her throat.

"Meg?"

"Cam?" Meg asked.

"Yeah." She stated, her sprits lifting at her friends voice.

"Oh my God! Are you okay?!" Meg asked hurriedly, "Everyone’s heard about it! It’s been in the papers and then you didn’t show up to school and the police were looking for you! What happened?!"

Surprised by the bombardment of questions, Cam merely held the phone to her ear and sat with a glazed over look on her face. Dar sighed and took the phone from Cam’s fingers.

"Hello?" He asked.

"Hello?" Meg answered, "Who’s this? Lohin?"

"Dar." He replied, testily. "Cam’s…step-brother." He replied after a short pause. There was silence on the other end and Dar assumed Meg was trying to decide whether he was telling a truth or not.

"Oh." Was all that came from the other end after that short pause and then seconds later, "Why isn’t Cam speaking."

"She’s a bit preoccupied with what you just told her with. She’ll come around eventually. Listen, if you want to know what happened let me explain. I know it better than she does."

"Okay, but is Cam going to get in serious trouble with the law?" Meg asked.

"No, she’s fine. I don’t even know why the police are still asking about her. Lohin’s parents explained to them that she was ill from her mothers death and that she wouldn’t be in for questioning until the end of the week." Before Meg could speak Dar continued, "That’s also why she hasn’t been in school for the past few days."

"Oh." Came Meg’s reply, "I see." There was another pause and then Meg stated, "I have to go. Is Cam coming to school tomorrow?"

"If she’s up to it. Then yes, she’ll be coming."

"Sweet." Meg replied, "Tell her I say bye and that I’ll see her tomorrow then."

"All right." Dar stated, though he sounded utterly annoyed with the idea. As Meg hung up, Dar hit the ‘Phone’ button before tossing the device on Cam’s bed .

"I’m hungry." He stated, standing and pulling his still out of it sister off her bed.

"You just ate." She responded, coming back to reality.

"So?" Dar stated, giving Cam a smile, "I’m a growing boy."

"You’re a growing idiot." She commented, before she sighed and headed downstairs. "Come on. I think I remember where the kitchen is in this place." As they left her room, Cam headed down the hallway to the stairs and then found her way to the kitchen.
