Dear Diary...10
|
As Cam and Lohin walked through the streets of the town, Cam could hear whispers and small bows as she passed, occasionally someone though would snarl or turn away, ignoring her completely.
"Why is it that some people turn away from me?" Cam whispered as they finally hit the steps to the castle. As she gazed upon it, her jaw opened slightly, Wow. She thought, It’s beautiful. At the end of the steps there lay a drawbridge, a large wooden door at the end, metal bars over that. Over the doorway stood something Cam couldn’t quiet see but was she would be able to once she got up there. As for the castle itself, there were many towers that seemed to touch the sky from where she stood. All of them had tall skinny windows, like the ones you would see in Fairy Tale castles and balconies and walkways that lead from one to another.
"That’s because some want you to be a future Ruler of this land and others don’t. They believe that your older brother, Dar should be Ruler as he is full Fairy and not half."
Cam merely stared at Lohin as if he had three heads, I have an older brother?! She screamed to herself as she dully heard Lohin chuckle and lead her up the steps to the palace.
When they reached the small bridge, Cam realized that the bars over the wooden entrance door had slid upwards, allowing them to enter. As she gazed up she could see that what was over the door was a plaque with an engraving in it. It looked like the signet of the King, her father. As they entered through the main doors, Cam snapped back into the present time and began staring at the others around her. Maids and servants hustled around everywhere, trying to hurry up and finish what they were doing before Cam noticed, as if she would yell at them otherwise.
"How come they all look human?" She asked Lohin, finding her voice again. She figured she would ask Lohin later about her older brother when they were alone and not surrounded by people.
"Our Human and Fairy forms look similar, they’re hardly any differences between the two. We have different clothing of course, and our wings are optional to show or not. Our eyes and hair change to their true colors, our ears become pointer at the ends and our skin is more illuminate."
"Oh." Cam mumbled.
"We’re also more elegant and graceful then Humans and we can do magic. Of course, that’s a known fact."
Unable to say anything other than ‘Oh’ and not wanting to look like an idiot, Cam merely nodded, her eyes returning to the hallway. The hallway it self was beautiful, as it seemed everything would be in this new home of hers. The ceilings were arched and everything was made of stone. Sunlight shined through the windows lining the left side of the wall, doors lined the other side. As they continued to walk down the hall, Cam’s eyes went to the other side of the hall, towards the doors, instead of trying to peek out the window into the courtyard beyond. Her eyes soaked up as many pictures of men and women in each painting as she could, until the paintings began to only have one person in them. Cam figured that they were the past Rulers of this world. No one spoke after that and a silence fell over them, almost in a suffocating manner. Clearing her throat, Cam opened her mouth to speak, put Lohin held up his hand indicating her not to. Pointing to the door in front of them, Cam say Lohin and his parents go stiff, they usual aloof manner becoming that of a soldiers.
As the great stone and wooden doors opened Cam nearly gasped, the room that lay before her feet was stunning. They was hardly anything in it, and that was what made it stunning. Stone statues lined both walls, lanterns hanging in their hands. Huge windows also lined both walls as wall as one giant window that sat behind four chairs, two large ones in the middle and two smaller ones on either side, though no one sat in them at the moment. Cam could see a few people standing around in the room, which seemed to glow with light and illuminated everything in sight. As her, Lohin and his parents began their walk towards the chairs at the other side, Cam realized that there were people sitting in three of the chairs. I could of sworn there wasn’t anybody in them just a second ago. She thought as her eyes lingered on the people.
The older male, she knew was her father. Though he was still that of a twenty-one year old, he seemed to have that aura about him. Of course, the fact that he was wearing a crown helped tip her off as well. Her father’s short brown hair and honey colored eyes, told Cam that she had gotten her looks from him more than her mother, though she was sure she got her attitude from her mother. As she drew closer Cam noticed that her father was smiling at her, a loving look in his eyes. Cam couldn’t help but smile back, a tingling sensation flowing over her body. She was finally meeting her father! Cam could hardly believe it. She wanted to run up to the man and hug him so tight, he would be imprinted in her body, though she figured since she was now living with him, he’d be imprinted into her memory anyway.
The female sitting to the left of her father was slim and beautiful. A few of her dark brown locks cascaded around her face in ringlets, the rest up in a bun, a tiara atop her head. Sharp eyes watched Cam silently, the corners of her lips turned upwards as if she were smiling to Cam. Cam smiled back, giving her step-mother a small bow. A red satin dress adorned her body, the corset on top clinging to her chest and upper waist, while the rest puffed out at the bottom and covered her feet by several inches. A black necklace rested against the skin between her collar bones, the design stunning to Cam. Her father stood and then her step-mother and then her step-brother, Dar.
Dar made Cam’s breath stop short. She’d never seen anyone look like him before. He was even better looking than Lohin. His stunning green eyes seemed to pierce right though Cam and look into her soul. He had dark brown curls like his mother, and a slight stubble on his chin and sides like he hadn’t shaved that morning yet. He watched Cam as she watched him yet neither of them smiled to one another. They just stared and then Cam’s father spoke.
"Cam, darling." He took a step off of his small pedestal and took Cam into a bear hug. Cam returned the hug, finally feeling save since her mother had died just the day before. "I’m so sorry about your mother’s death." Cam’s father cleared his throat as he pulled back, and Cam could tell he was hurting too. She knew, though, that as a King it wasn’t proper to show sadness for those you had lost.
"Tagnir." The older woman stated, voice soft and nothing like Cam would have pictured it. "Are you going to introduce us?"
Cam gave a small smile to her step-mother, her eyes watching her father though.
Her father cleared his throat once more and nodded, "Yes, yes. I will don’t fret Marrin." Taking Cam’s hand in his, Tagnir helped her up the few steps to the pedestal. Cam’s smile widened, and she was getting really excited though she was trying desperately not to show it so she didn’t look like a fool in front of her new step-mother. "This is my second wife, Marrin, Cam. She’s going to be your new mother." Cam gave a nod to Marrin, her eyes locking with her step-mothers. In that instance, Cam felt like something small had clicked and Marrin nodded back. Tagnir smiled, overjoyed that Cam and Marrin were getting along. "Next is Dar, Cam. He’s your step-brother. He’s only two years older than you. My wife’s son from her first marriage."
Cam’s mouth made a small ‘o’ as she watched Dar. Extending her hand out to him, she smiled. "Nice to meet you Dar. I hope we get along great."
Dar stared at her hand, a scowl gracing his beautiful face. "I doubt it." He stated, boredom clearly in his words. "Father may I be excused?" Dar asked, his eyes going from Cam’s form to his fathers.
Tagnir hesitated in answering but sighed a few seconds later, nodding. "I suppose." He muttered and with his approval to leave, Dar stepped past the two and headed to a door off to the side.
"Don’t worry about him." Tagnir stated, as Cam watched Dar leave. "He’ll get used to you." Cam nodded, though she was silent for the rest of the introductions. They were so many people she had met that she was positive she would never remember all of there names. Most were servants that would be given to her, others were teachers to help her in her studies, and still more were friends of her fathers, Lords, Ladies, Barons, Baroness of different sub-divisions of the kingdom.
Finally after two and a half hour of introductions and Cam being given a crown of her own, letting the whole kingdom know that she was now a proper daughter of the King and a Princess of the Fairy World, Cam was able to have some time to herself while he admired her new room. It sat in the West side of the castle, beautiful huge french style doors opened up to a gigantic balcony that over looked one of the many courtyards and after that over the town. She was relatively high up and Cam knew if she fell from this height she wouldn’t be able to land without breaking an arm or leg.
Turning back to face her room, Cam couldn’t help but smile. Everything in this place seemed to be beautiful or expensive, even the people themselves. Getting a running start, Cam jumped onto her bed, laughing.
"You look like an idiot." A male voice stated and Cam froze. Untangling herself from her sheets, Cam looked at her door to see Dar standing there, resting against the door frame, an annoyed look on her face.
"What do you want?" Cam asked, eyeing him.
"Nothing."
"Then you can leave." She responded.
Dar smirked, "Already getting an attitude towards your older brother?" He asked, pushing off the door frame, arms crossed over his chest as he walked towards her.
"I’m just returning the favor from earlier."
"Ahh. I see."
"Amazing, those eyes doing something other than glare." Cam responded sarcastically.
"Listen I came to talk to you."
"About?" Cam asked, scooting over as Dar sat down on her bed. Obviously he didn’t care that she hadn’t offered and just took it upon himself to do so.
"About Lohin." Dar stated, eyeing her now intently.
"What about Lohin?" Cam asked, eyeing him back. What was he getting at? Lohin was a good guy compared to Dar, who seemed all mysterious and evil looking.
"He’s going to try to kill you."
