The phone rang just as the end of Kill Bill was playing and Cam sighed, rolling off the couch after hitting the PAUSE button and picked up the phone that was on the floor beside the couch. "Hello?" She asked into the receiver, her voice sounding groggy even to herself.
"Were you asleep?" A voice asked, and Cam realized it was Lohin.
"No," She replied, "Just watching a movie. It’s towards the end, getting good."
"Oh." Lohin replied. "Well, open you’re front door."
Cam squinted at the floor, "The front door?" She asked and when Lohin answered with a ‘yes’ she pushed herself off the floor and headed to the front door.
"Why what’s out…" Cam trailed off as she pulled open the door. There sitting in her driveway was Lohin and underneath him his beautiful Kawasaki Ninja. Cam hung up at the same time Lohin did, placing the phone down by the small table near the front door and immediately felt stupid standing there with him watching in her Looney Toons boxers and a giant holed t-shirt. Lohin sat sitting on his bike, watching Cam watch him with a smile on his face. As Cam pushed open the front door he gave her a small wave.
"So are you coming or not?" He questioned her, patting the seat behind him.
"Um…" Cam said, nodding furiously. She’d always wanted a street bike of her own, but hell if she was dating a good looking guy who had one it was sort of the same. Right?
Lohin laughed, "I got your message. Figured if we were going on a date, might as well show up in style." He gave Cam another smile and she felt her heart jump up into her throat. Why was she so nervous?
"Be right back." She said, hurrying back inside and running up to her room, throwing her clothes on the floor and rummaging quickly through her drawers. Pulling out a normal pair of jeans, a red tank top and a black t-shirt she threw the jeans on then the tank top and finally the t-shirt. Pulling on her sneakers, she fixed her hair, put a bit of makeup on, and brushed her teeth again.
Scribbling a note for her mom, Cam seized her cell phone, before stuffing it into her pocket. Turning everything off, she locked the front door and met Lohin at his bike. Lohin had stayed where he was patiently waiting for her to get ready. "Ready?" He asked, handing her a helmet.
Cam nodded, taking the helmet with shaky hands, amazed she was finally going to ride on a bike like this. "Can you go fast." She asked, slipping the helmet on and sliding into the seat behind Lohin. Her hands automatically wrapped around Lohin’s waist and she felt his warm skin underneath her fingertips, sending a tingling sensation throughout her body. Wow. She thought, getting giddy. Maybe this dating thing won’t be so bad. As Lohin hadn’t answered her question yet, but he was backing out of her driveway and on to the street. Before she could ask him again, he sped off down the road fast.
Cam laughed, holding on tighter to Lohin as they took a sharp corner. "You’re going to kill us!" She yelled to him, over the roar of the wind.
"You’re the one who said to go fast!" He yelled back to her, slowing down as a car in front of them stopped for a red light.
"Yeah," Cam said, moving slightly to look at him. "But I didn’t think you would take me seriously."
"Why shouldn’t I take you seriously?"
Lohin eased up on the gas before he sped off again, Cam tucked her head close to his back, even with the helmet on she was still getting a draft and she was starting to get cold, or atleast that’s what she wanted Lohin to think she was doing. In truth, she wasn’t sure what she was going to do. She was afraid she was starting to like this Fairy boy. Not a bad thing of course, she’d never really had a real boyfriend before, but the fact that he was…Well…A Fairy, sort of put a damper on things. Not to mention that they were suppose to get engaged in two months and then married at the end of the school year. Cam sighed, though it was inaudible with the wind whipping around them as she sped down the street.
As they pulled into the parking lot of the movie theaters, Cam noticed a few people from school she recognized staring at them. What were they doing at the movies so early, school had just gotten out an hour or so ago. As Lohin parked, Cam slid off the bike and took the helmet off, replacing in on the back of the seat, Lohin following her.
"You sure no one is going to steal your bike?" She asked, as he lead it to the front of the theaters, his hand touching the small of her back just enough so she could feel a slight heat there. Cam’s head was stained in an odd angle as she tried to look behind them and walk at the same time.
"No." Lohin replied, chuckling as he turned her head with his free hand back to in front of them, "That bike is protected magically as well as with the normal alarm system. I’ll know if anyone tries to steal it."
"How?" Cam asked, her eyes flickering to a few of the students who were still watching before going back to Lohin. Lohin tapped his head gently with his fore finger, but other then that didn’t answer.
Opening the theaters door, Lohin lead her inside and they waited in line. Not knowing what they were going to see, Cam stared up at the rotating screen in the middle of the lobby showing the movie titles and there times.
"Two for Life Free or Die Hard please." Lohin said, as they stepped up to the ticket booth.
Cam hadn’t even realized that they were there yet, her mind focusing on the screen the whole time. Sheepishly, she pulled out her wallet but Lohin stopped her. Giving him a quizzical look, Cam watched as he paid for both their tickets. "Girls don’t pay on dates." Lohin said, taking her hand and leading her the concession stand.
"Oh." Cam mumbled, not used to such treatment. On the few dates she’d been on she always had to pay for herself.
"Popcorn?" Lohin asked her, his fingers linking with hers. Cam’s eyes flew to their hands then to Lohin but he didn’t seem to notice he was already buying them a medium popcorn with extra butter and a medium orange soda.
"Thanks Lohin." Cam said as they found two seats in the center of the middle row.
"Don’t worry about it." Lohin said, giving her a smile. "In fact, get used to it."
For the second time in less then an hour, Cam didn’t know what to say to Lohin, she merely nodded and gave him a smile back. Maybe she would give this dating thing a chance. No matter what she was going to have to marry him weather she wanted to or not, she was sure of that. Might as well like the guy she’s going to marry.
As the movie started, Lohin and Cam barley talked, their attentions drawn to the action packed film like moths to a flame. The only reason Cam realized Lohin was still there was when he occasionally gave her hand a squeeze when she jumped at certain parts. It wasn’t that she was scared, for awed at how bad that must have hurt the person who had been inflicted.
When the movie ended, Lohin and Cam left their seats, following the line of people before they headed out into the now late afternoon. "Now what?" Cam asked as they walked to his bike.
"I’ll be taking you home. Tomorrow night, maybe we can go somewhere else?"
"It’s up to you." She responded, waiting for him to get comfortable on his bike before she slide on behind him and placed the helmet on.
"We’ll think of something during school, that okay with you?"
"That’s fine." She said as he backed up, her arms once more around his waist, a feeling of ease washing over her.
"You are coming to school tomorrow right?" He asked.
Cam laughed, the sound muffled as everything else was from the helmets and she nodded, "Yes!" She shouted, as Lohin sped off towards the exit.
As Lohin pulled onto her street, the sirens and flashing lights of police cars and ambulances shined brightly from Cam’s driveway. Lohin slowed down a house away, and helped Cam get off because she was trying to pull the helmet off and get off at the same time.
Cam ran towards her house, the sirens more deafening then the wind had been when she was on the bike. Reaching her house, she was stopped by a police officer. "Miss you can’t be here now."
"That’s my house!" She cried out, Lohin coming up behind her. The police officers face fell and he nodded, letting her go by with Lohin. Clutching Lohin’s hand like a vice, Cam tentatively walked towards her front door. Men and women surrounded her house, curious expressions shined on their faces, though some held more fear then anything else.
Before she even reached her house, Cam was greeted with two Forensic members, wheeling out a body bag. A sob escaped her lips and she started towards them but was stopped by another police officer. "Miss, we need to ask you some questions."
"Is my mom dead?" Cam whispered, her body going numb, eyes mesmerized by the body bag being wheeled away.
The police officer nodded grimly. "Gunshot to the head." He replied, voice quiet.
Cam’s attention was drawn back to the police officer. She stared at him blankly and then the tears came.
"Why?" She choked out, the tears falling harder now. But the police officer didn’t have an answer and seeing how Cam was in so much distress he gave Lohin a card and left them alone.
Lohin pocketed the card and then turned Cam to him, she was staring off into space, but he hugged her anyway, the grip tight. Cam’s arms wrapped around him, face burring into his chest, body shaking with sobs. Lohin murmured soothing words to her, but nothing seemed to help and he felt terrible about it. "Can I take her to my place?" He asked a passing officer. "I’ve got a card already. I’ll call you when she’s up to talking."
The officer nodded, and Lohin directed Cam back to the bike. He called his parents on the way, telling them briefly what had happened and that Cam would be staying with them for the night. Helping Cam onto his bike, Lohin headed back to his house, going slower then normal because the grip Cam on him wasn’t as tight as it was before and he was worried that she would fall if he took a corner to sharp. Tonight was going to be Hell for Cam and if she’d let him, Lohin would be there for her as best he could.
Cam hung to Lohin, the tears hadn’t stopped falling and they were starting to fog up the inside of her helmet. The drive to Lohin’s housed passed in a blur. How could this happen? How could her mom die? Who would do such a thing? Why now, when it was her last year in High School? Her mom wouldn’t even get to see her graduate. The tears started ever harder now, if that were possible, and Cam’s fingers dug into Lohin’s shirt. Cam could feel one of Lohin’s hand rest on top of hers, giving it a small squeeze before it left to go back to steering the bike into the driveway. Lohin’s parents were already outside waiting for them and as Cam slipped off the bike, replacing the helmet in its spot on the seat, she took Lohin’s hand in hers and headed towards them.
