Pulling into her driveway, Cameron greeted Megan who was sitting on her front stoop with a sigh. "Hey." Megan said, "Ready to work on homework?"
"Not really." She grumbled in reply, unlocking her front door and heading inside.
"So how was detention?" Megan asked, sitting in one of her kitchen chairs, dropping her bag at her feet.
"Fine. I had help today. This new kid named Lohin…Eldric." Cameron had placed her book bag down and was looking through her fridge for anything the two could snack on. Pulling out two containers of Jell-O, she tossed one to Megan.
"What kind of name is that?" Meg asked, opening the container and squeezing it, causing some of the Jell-O to cascade out and over the sides. Hurriedly she caught most of it with her mouth, the rest in her hand.
"Ugh. Come on Meg. At least wait until I give you a spoon." Cam said, viewing her friend, before handing her her own spoon and letting her dig in. "What do you want to start with first?" She asked, sitting down and digging into her own Jell-O.
"History first. Might as well get that over with." Meg said sighing and pulling her History book out.
"Wonderful." Cam groaned, doing the same.
Seven o-clock rolled around and Cameron’s mom walked through the door to see her daughter and Meg studying at the kitchen table. "Hey you two."
"Hey mom." Cam said, face still in her book.
"Hey Mrs. M." Meg said, glancing up and waving lightly to Cam’s mom.
"You guys been studying long?" Her mom asked, placing her things on the counter and then rummaging through the fridge.
"Since I got home at four." Cam replied, turning the page and then scribbling some notes down.
"You still have a week’s worth of detention left?" Her mom asked, pulling out a can of soda and opening it.
Cam nodded, "Yeah. Next Friday ends Hell." Her mom gave Cam a stern look, but otherwise didn’t say anything while she took a sip of her soda. Not like Cam saw, her face was still buried in her History book.
"Meg you staying for dinner.?" Her mom asked, and Meg nodded.
"Yeah my parents left this morning for Cancun. They won’t be home until Monday."
"Well you’re welcome to stay for the weekend." Her mom said, and Meg nodded, accepting the invitation.
Cam sat at her desk in her room, her desk light shining away from Meg as she slept in her bed. She could hear the Grandfather clock downstairs chime midnight and Cam sighed. "Another all night. Thank God, it’s Saturday tomorrow." She whispered, closing her text book and turning off her light. Climbing into bed, not even bothering to change into her pajamas, Cam fell asleep.
Yet again, Cam was in the foyer of the mansion she had dreamt about the night before. She was once more dressed in the elegant black dress, her mask clinging to her face again. Stepping down the few steps, she walked up to the few people who were still there. They nodded to her, bowing their heads lightly as she walked by. Confusion must of written on her face as she stepped up to a servant who was standing just to the left of the entryway into what looked like a grand ballroom.
"Mistress." He stated, bowing to her. "The Master is waiting for you. This way please."
Mistress? She thought, What? Following him anyway she was lead to the male from the night before. "You’re Lohin." She said, staring at him. "From school."The male nodded, "Yes. That’s me."
"But how come I’m here? Why’d that servant call me Mistress. What the hell is going on?" Cam asked, prodding Lohin in the chest with a finger. "I’d like an answer please."
"You are my fiancee. We own this home and are throwing this ball for our engagement party." Lohin stated, as if this was normal for him.
"What?!" Cameron nearly screamed, drawing almost everyone’s attention to her. "Oh no pal. Not gonna happen. No way."
"It’s already been arranged. You are the one I’m suppose to marry the prophecy says so."
Before Cam could question what the Hell Lohin was talking about, her dream started to fade. The edges blurring as she was ripped from her dream and into reality. Megan was crawling over her, one leg around her hip, the other over the edge of the bed.
"Sorry." She whispered to Cam. "I had to go to the bathroom. I didn’t mean to wake you up."
Cam nodded, eyes half open as she snuggled back into her warm pillow. Closing her eyes fully she tried to fall back to sleep and restart the dream she had ended but she wasn’t able to. No matter how hard she thought about it, she couldn’t get Lohin to reappear.
