For the next few months, Jacob went everyday to Ariana’s cottage, assisting her with everything she needed to take care of the village. Although the work was exhausting, he always felt proud that he was doing something productive. Of course, it didn’t hurt that his teacher was so beautiful. It hurt to see the way these people treated her, like she was a pest and nothing more. However, he kept his feelings in check, to make sure he didn’t add any damage. Ariana never showed her feelings for Jacob in front of the patients, knowing what they already thought about her. Jacob followed suit, not wanting to any more damage to her reputation. Behind closed doors however, was a different story.
“Jacob, Jacob… stop. We need to stop.” Ariana was flustered and out of breath. Jacob stopped kissing her neck, and looked at her. “Too fast?” he asked. She nodded, unable to speak. He sighed. He respected her wishes, and would never rush her, but…. He could not help his feelings. He was a man, after all. She bent her head, blushing. “It’s not that… that I’m not feeling what you’re feeling.” “No, I don’t think you feel what I’m feeling. If you were, I think you would have imploded already.” She grabbed his hand, and turned him to face her. “ You think I haven’t been imploding? Honestly?” She grabbed his hand, and made him turn around. “Everyone here thinks that I’ve uncrossed my legs for many men, but there is absolutely no truth in that. In fact, no man has ever even wanted me for that sort of thing. Then you come… and… I feel so different around you, and… oh I don’t know what to think. It’s just so hard. I don’t trust easily, and you know that.” She looked down. “ Ariana…” Jacob whispered cupping his hand underneath her chin and forcing her to look in his eyes, “I know. It’s hard for me too. But I swear on my life, I would never hurt you. Honest.” She smiled, reassured once again by his words. “Thank You.”
Suddenly, the skies broke open, and thunder, lighting and rain burst forth from the heavens. “Oh dear,” said Ariana, “ There’s no way you can go home now. Not in this weather. I guess you’ll just have to stay with me for the night.” Jacob looked at her, curious. “Where am I going to sleep?” She looked at him, all eyes, and whispered “Who said anything about sleeping?” His expression switched from euphoria to fear to incredulousness and back again. “What caused this?” He asked. “ I realized that, finally, there’s nothing more to be afraid of with you.” She smiled, and took his hand, leading him to her bedroom. He took her in his arms and kissed her softly, wanting to make every sensation memorable. Slowly, he slid down her dress leaving only her slip, and laid her on the bed, not breaking the kiss. She shivered, not wanting the feelings to stop. His hand drifted up her slip, and rested on her thigh. His mouth moved from her lips, to her neck, to her collarbone, and further down. Sighing, her hands went through his hair. The night encircled them with desire, and the thunderstorm allowed all hesitations to dissipate. When the morning’s light hit their sleeping figures, they were forever changed.
