I awake to the morning of November 18, 2009 with the feeling that something interesting would happen today. Just then the phone rang, knowing exactly who would call me first thing in the morning I picked it up and answered with a,

“Hello Honey!”

“Hey babe, Happy Birthday!” said my high school sweetheart, Kaden Allen.

“Thanks! Have anything planned for today or are you going to continue studying for your teaching degree?”

“You know I could study, but I would rather spend my day with the most beautiful girl in the world!”

 “Oh, and who would that be? Do I know her?” I teased.

 “Yes, that is if you know, Caire Leytil!” I laughed since that happened to be my name.

“Okay, so when will I be able to see you?” Just then the doorbell rang.

 “Open the door.” So I did. He was standing there in all his black hair, blue eye, 5’6”, and blue jeans glory. In his one hand was a bouquet of red roses and a small present. In his other hand was the cell phone that he used to call me with. When he saw me clad in my light blue silk robe and my fuzzy slippers all he could do was smile and close his phone.

“Are you going to stay out there all day smiling at my choice in pajamas, or are you going to come into my humble abode?” Humble was an understatement; I lived in a nice four bedrooms, three bathrooms flat that had a great view of the beach. Seven months after graduating from Sussex Technical High School with an eighty-seven g.p.a. and a background in computerized accounting and computers, I was set. I started and was at a place where I could help sole proprietors handle their business accounts and cash. It was both easy and second nature by now. Anyway that is what got me this really nice place. I watched as Kaden took in the view of my living room/entranceway with the spectacular view of the beach area. He went to the comfy leather sofa as he took in all the sights he could.

“Like it?” I asked, curious of what he was thinking.

 “Like it? He echoed “I love what you have done with the place!” I couldn’t help but beam from ear to ear.

“I am going to go get a vase for those radiant roses.”

 “Alright but make it quick hun because I have a surprise for your 19^th birthday!” 

“‘Kay Darling, be there in a second!” I returned from the kitchen with the roses, placed them on the coffee table, and then plopped myself on the sofa next to him. “What is the big surprise?”

“You’ll see in a second when you open this gift up!” he said excitedly as he handed me the small wrapped parcel that he kept in his hand the whole time. So I tore off the wrapping paper and saw what looked like to be a velvet black ring box. I turned towards him.

“Is this what I think it is?” I asked.

“Open it up and see, unless you want me to open it for you,” was his reply. I opened the box and saw the most beautiful engagement ring I ever saw, it wasn’t big but it was a beautiful heart made out of diamonds. I looked him straight in the eyes and he asked those four words I wanted to hear for so long ……… “Are you okay honey?”

*Interruption*

Okay those weren’t the words he said. I was just making sure that you were paying attention. What he really said is below:

“Will you marry me? As those answers you want to hear I answered “Yes!” The next part was a blur other than the fact that he was kissing me. We went from sitting on the sofa to standing by the window admiring the perfection that it showed us.

“Will you love me after 20 years have passed?” I wondered aloud.

“Of course I will Caire!” He insisted while hugging my shoulders from behind “I will love you always and forever!”
