Summer was here and for vampires that was their kryptonite. One step into the sunlight and their life would fade away right infront of their eyes. They wouldn't go peacefully either, it would feel like they're under a magnify glass and they're the ant.
Tristan layed back on the couch in the basement. He flipped through a few channels before he gave up and tossed the remote down. His cell phone rang and he opened it. "Hello?" He greeted, not recognizing the number. "Tristan!" Kieth exclaimed, "I'm at this party at the beach, you need to be here!" "The beach?" Tristan blankly stated, glancing at the glowing sun behind the dark curtain. "Yeah, there's tons of booze and plenty of babes.. you have to come!" Kieth demanded. Tristan sighed, "Alright, call me when it cools down a bit, I'm fixing a table for my grandpa right now." "Sure thing." Kieth answered before he hung up. Tristan put his phone down and he heard a commotion upstairs. Narrowing his eyes, Tristan cautiously walked up the stairs. There was some giggling and then silence. Tristan turned the corner to see Brandon and Vanessa against the wall. She moved her head to one side as Brandon explored her neck. "Brandon," Tristan interupted, "What the hell are you doing?" Vanessa's eyes grew wide and she stepped aside. Brandon laughed, "Hey little brother...ughh.. I didn't know you were here." "I told you I was going to be downstairs..." Tristan muttered, looking at Vanessa. She fixed her top and brushed out her hair with her fingers. "Right," Brandon sighed, "Umm.. Vanessa, this is my younger brother, Tristan. Tristan, this is Vanessa." "We've.." "Nice to meet you Tristan." Vanessa interupted him. Tristan slightly nodded, "I'll be downstairs... didn't mean to interupt." He turned and couldn't get out of the kitchen fast enough.
' "Tristan!!!" He heard his mother scream from downstairs. Tristan ran into the hallway and looked down the stairs to see his mother being attacked by three... monsters. They had pale, blue skin and they're eyes were a funny color. A growl was mustered amongst them as they bit her neck, wrists and shoulder. "Brandon!" Tristan yelled and ran down the stairs. "No!" His mother cried, "Dont!" Tristan paused and watched in horror as his mother was devoured right before his eyes. "Run Tristan, run!" She wailed. Tristan back tracked up the stairs and ran into his bedroom. He shut the door and locked it behind him. Crossing the bedroom, he started to open the window. "Tristan..." A voice whispered. All the hair rose on his skin and he turned. ' "Tristan..." Vanessa whispered, waking him from his dream. His eyes slowly opened and he sighed, "What do you want?" "Brandon fell asleep so I came down here and you were asleep too..." She explained. "And you couldn't wake him up?" He asked, sounding annoyed. Ignoring the attitude in his voice, she sat next to him, "You were dreaming weren't you?" Tristan looked over at her and then looked at the tv. "We're not dating you know... we actually just met." Vanessa tried to explain. Knowing who she was referring to , Tristan shrugged, "I don't care what you and Brandon do, have fun..." "It's not like that." She argued, offended by his remarks. "You get pretty close with guys you barely know, don't you?" Tristan laughed, grabbing his phone. "Excuse me..." Vanessa snapped, "You're being rude." "Then go wake up the nice, naive brother." Tristan shrugged. "That's funny," She returned the sarcasm, "Because that's how he described you." He shot her a mean glare and checked the time. 7 pm. And it was nice and dark outside. "Where are you going?" She asked as he grabbed his zip-up hoodie. "I have a party to attend." He answered. Vanessa pushed him against a wall , "Well then, take me with you." "Why?" Tristan asked, his eyes searching hers. "Because," Her voice softened along with her eyes, " someone should atleast be with you this time...just in case." He sighed, hesitated then nodded, "Alright, but don't be dumb." Vanessa laughed at that remark and she followed him upstairs.
The waves crashed against the shoreline as music filled the air and campfires licked at the dark sky. Tristan felt his feet sink a little into the sand and he glanced at Vanessa who walked away. Relieved she was doing 'her own thing' he found Kieth and smiled, "Hey man!" Kieth returned the friendly smile and shook his hand, "You came!" Tristan shrugged, "Yeah, why not?" Kieth handed him a beer and nodded towards a group of girls, "These lovely ladies wouldn't stop asking about you earlier... everyone seems to want a piece of you." Tristan softly laughed and considered the irony.
Vanessa pretended to listen to the conversation around her as she watched Tristan. She would nod occasionally or laugh when it seemed fit but couldnt take her eyes off of Tristan. He would acknowledge her as well, catching her eyes here and there. They were both oddly attracted to eachother, they just wouldn't admit it.
"Tristan," Kieth stated as a blonde girl started to turn, "Meet my sister, Kayla." Tristan recognized her right away, she almost became last night's meal. Understanding their silent agreement to pretend last night never happened, Kayla stuck her hand out, "Nice to meet you, my brother talks about you all the time." "Good things I hope." Tristan forced a smile. She shrugged, "Wouldn't you like to know?" Kayla took Tristan's beer and walked away. Kieth patted his back, "She likes you, other friends of mine, she'd spill the beer on them." Tristan nodded, watching Kayla walk away, "Then.. I'm glad I'm in her good graces." Kieth laughed and walked away. Kayla continued walking along the waterfront, her ankles submerged in the water. He stuffed his hands in his pockets and walked over. Vanessa took notice of this - right away.
"Hey..." Tristan greeted, joining Kayla on her walk. She softly smiled, moving her hair from her eyes, "Hi..." "Listen, I truly am sorry about last night..." He sighed, staring down at his feet. Kayla shrugged, "Boys will be boys... besides, I totally understand if you had a girlfriend and all, any guy would've freaked out." "Girlfriend?" Tristan repeated then laughed, "I don't have a girlfriend..."
Vanessa, losing sight of her newly founded vampire friend, broke away from her group.
"No?" Kayla asked, sipping the foam from her plastic cup. Tristan shook his head and looked at her, "No." "Then who was..." "Tristan!" Vanessa laughed, jogging over, "I've been looking for you." Kayla rolled her eyes and walked away. Tristan sighed, "Vanessa.... how long were you looking for me?" Vanessa watched Kayla dissapear into a crowd of people then she has a satisfactory smile on her face. "Was that really necessary... she already thinks you're my girlfriend..." Tristan muttered. Vanessa turned to Tristan and pushed him, knocking him back onto the sand. The water rushed over both of them, freezing their skin. "Good." Vanessa whispered in his ear before she started kissing his neck. Tristan shuddered at the sensation running through his body. He gripped Vanessa and rolled over ontop of her. His fangs extended and he bit above her collarbone. Blood pooled for a moment before the water washed it away. Vanessa pulled Tristan back down and started kissing him. Tristan - couldn't stop it.
