Empty Eyes: Ch.8 - Isolation
|
Lainey woke up, her hair stuck to her face. She wiped away the almost dried tears and slowly sat up. Her arm was bandaged and so was her leg. They had placed her in a seperate room last night. It's smaller, less light comes through the window and the door is big and heavy. The isolation rooms definatly had a jail-like feeling, Lainey should know - she had been there before.
" Why do you want to see her so bad?" Mr. Whitman asked, crossing his arms. Aaron sighed, "It's a long story... please, I need to see her." Mr. Whitman shook his head, "No, I can't let you see her. If you can't tell me why you want to see her so bad, then I'm afraid I can't let you... besides, she doesnt need visitation from random guys... she needs to heal." "I can help her do that...please..." Aaron frowned. Mr. Whitman ignored him, "I'm sorry, I can't help you..." He turned and walked up the sidewalk leading to his house. Aaron bowed his head and walked back to his house. He glanced back at Mr. Whitman and shook his head.
"Lainey," The head nurse entered her room, "What would you like for lunch... we have chicken and mashed potatoes or a nice salad with some soup?" Lainey looked away, "I'm not hungry..." "You're not going to eat?" The nurse asked, frowning. Lainey glanced at her then looked back at the barred window. "Maybe you would like to go to 'truth' today?" The nurse asked. Truth is the name of the social group that takes place in the small office, troubled kids open up about their past and whatever is said isn't allowed to leave the room. Lainey shrugged, "I dont have anything to say..." The nurse sighed, slightly nodded and left, closing and locking the door behind her.
"I'm telling you it's her..." Aaron softly explained, his eyes shining with tears. "Honey... she's probably a girl with the same name... it's not her." His mom frowned, rubbing her thumb across his cheek. "No, you didn't see the way she looked at me when I told her my name... it's her..." Aaron argued. She sighed, "Don't get your hopes up, when her father took her away he made sure he took her far... far away so her mother could never hurt her again..." Aaron nodded, "Well, I think she's back momma... and she ain't with her dad." He walked past her and jogged up the stairs. His mom shook her head and stirred her coffee.
Lainey watched through the bars as it got darker outside. She pulled her knees to her chest and sighed. Single tears fell from each eye and she buried her face into her arms. "I need you Aaron..." She whispered, lip trembling. Lainey covered her face as she started to cry.
