Logan sat on the cool sand at a beach in town. He listened as the waves crashed against the rocks and the water rolled up onto the shore. The sun was starting to rise and it was getting light out. Logan sighed and laid back. He closed his eyes and that's when a soft tap was felt on his shoulder. Logan's eyes opened and he immediatly sat up. Rene softly smiled, her hair blowing in the breeze. She sighed, "Hello Logan." Sitting down, she looked over at him, "Are you ready to talk now?" He slightly nodded, taking her hand into his.
Thomas opened his eyes and looked to see a piece of paper on the pillow next to him. He sat up and saw his name written in Rene's handwriting.
Rene pulled her hand away and looked up at him. "Sorry..." Logan sighed, easing his hand back onto the sand. She slightly shrugged, "It's fine."
'Dear Thomas,' Thomas began to read her letter, 'I'm writing this to you because I could not sleep last night... you see, a person walked back into my life last night and it took my breath away... this is someone who I've only dreamed about seeing again....I never thought we were to cross paths anytime...'
"Why did you leave?" Logan finally asked, breaking the silence, "You didn't have to go... but you did."
' You are a great person Thomas but what we have isn't real... I feel like you're more in love with my mother than you are with me...' Thomas looked away from the letter and sighed.
Rene bowed her head, "I didn't have a choice Logan... I had to finish school." He shook his head, "You didn't have to do anything...." "Well why didn't you come look for me?" She snapped, "Don't point the finger at me when you didn't even try to find me!"
'You'll find your engagement ring back in it's box in the drawer next to the bed...thanks for giving me you're love and I'm sorry I couldn't give it back... my heart was taken a long time ago... and I've gone to get it back. Sinceraly yours, Rene.' Thomas crumbled the piece of paper and threw it across the room.
"Why does it matter anymore? We've both moved on..." Logan muttered, getting up. Rene stood and brushed off her pants, "I left Thomas... it was going to happen eventually... I couldn't be with him anymore after last night." Logan looked back at her, "Last night?" She slightly nodded, "We... were together last night..." Logan felt a wierd sense of jealousy shoot through him. He turned to face her, "And?.." Rene shrugged, "And it's over... there was nothing there..." "One night?" He softly laughed. Rene rolled her eyes, "There were plenty of nights to know it was just about the sex..." Logan stopped laughing and he nodded, "Good for you." He started to walk away. "I want my heart back Logan," Rene managed to whisper as tears rolled down her face. Logan stopped and looked back. "I never got it back before I left..." Rene cried, she wiped her tears away but more kept coming, "God, I'm so sick of crying over you!" Logan sighed, "Rene.." She shook her head, backing away from him, "No... you know what , keep it." She turned, crossed her arms and started walking away. Logan reached out and grabbed her. He turned her to face him and he nodded, "Well you're going to have to leave without it because I'm never giving it back..." Logan raised her chin and he kissed her.
