There was a horn in the distance, a new barge was coming in at the dam. Fog eased from the lake's water and the sun was just beginning to rise. Logan's eyes opened and he looked around his dark bedroom. It's been six years since he last saw Rene. He glanced at the picture on his dresser, it was a picture of them by her pool back when they were teenagers. The smell of coffee filled the room and he sighed, crawling out of bed. A scar on the back of his shoulder blade stood out against his pale skin. His dog tags fell back on his chest as he walked out of the bedroom. "Smell's good." He mummbled, walking into the kitchen like a zombie. His friend, Brody looked back and smiled, "It's sad that the smell of coffee wakes you up." Logan laughed, "For your information I was already awake..." "Uhuh," Brody nodded, "For how long?" Logan shook his head and took a cup from the cabinet above the sink. He walked over and poured himself some coffee. " You still never told me how you got that scar..." Brody muttered, looking at Logan's back. "Beehive round went off near my unit, some of the projectiles flew and nailed me in my shoulder." Logan explained. Brody grimaced, "Ouch." Sitting across from him, Logan nodded, "Exactly." "So you glad your contract's up?" Brody asked, drinking some of his coffee. He nodded, "Yeah... I really liked my job but I missed the regular lifestyle." "Thrill wasn't exciting anymore?" Brody asked, slightly laughing. Logan shrugged, " It was just time to come back, I figure I could travel some and visit my mom." Brody nodded, "That's cool." "Speaking of which, do you have the number for the Missouri airport?" Logan asked, opening the paper. Brody nodded, "Yeah in the phone book, I'll get it for you." "Thanks..." He muttered, taking a sip of his coffee.
' Rene walked through a garden and saw a male standing at the edge of the pond's water, looking out at the sun's reflection. His black hair, slightly blew in the wind and his hands were stuffed into his pockets. She tapped him on the shoulder, "Excuse me?" The male turned and smiled, "Hey there beautiful." Rene gasped, "Logan?" Logan held out his hand, "Come with me." ' Rene sat up, "Logan?" She looked around the room, sun shining through the blinds. There was a sigh next to her and a blonde haired male sat up, rubbing his eyes.
"Sorry..." She muttered, pulling the blankets off of her. He shrugged, "I'm getting used to it by now... like you said, it happens often." "I can't help what my dreams are about Thomas..." Rene tried not to snap at him. Thomas nodded, looking back at her, "I guess I would like for once to be the man of your dreams... I wish I was your Logan." She stared blankly as he rose, walked over, kissed her cheek then left the room. Rene sighed as she rubbed her forehead.
"Logan," Brody called out as he appeared in the doorway, "I'm going to have lunch with Michelle, she said a group of friends are going to the bar tonight, you want to go?" Logan shrugged, pulling a black 'wife beater' over his head, "Sure..." Brody smiled, "Alright, cool. I'll call you later." Logan waved as Brody walked off. He put on his running shoes and picked up his mp3. Attaching the mp3 to his arm, he put the headphones in his ear and jogged down the hallway and out the screen door.
"I'm going to work." Rene muttered from the archway to the kitchen. Thomas drank his coffee and looked up. He cleared his throat, " Alright, we're supost to have dinner tonight with your parents." She rolled her eyes, "Fun..." Thomas laughed, "I thought so." Rene walked over, kissed him then waved, "I'll see you later." He waved.
The sweat glistened on Logan's muscular legs and arms as he ran along the shore line of the beach. He thought about Rene and started running faster. Almost running into someone he came to a abrupt stop and panted out of breath. "Sorry.." He managed to say. The girl, looking him up and down smiled, "It's okay, what's your name?" "Logan." He stood straight and extended out his hand. Her soft fingers locked around his and she shook his hand, "Rene." Logan's smile faded and he slightly nodded, "Sorry again." She started to say something but he continued running, a old pain refreshed in his chest. Why can't he forget her, is it because he didn't get to say goodbye? Logan shook away the thought and sprinted back home.
