The next day, Logan looked over at his phone. He opened it to see he had 23 missed calls and 3 voicemails. Rolling his eyes, he tossed it aside and sighed. His mom appeared in the doorway, "Hey kiddo... hungry?" Logan shook his head, remaining silent. She sighed, "Logan, you haven't eaten since yesterday morning... did something happen?" He ignored her and stared at his wristbands, picking at the fuzz. His mom frowned, "Is it about that girl? Did you have a fight?" "Would you just go away?" He snapped. She slightly nodded and walked back to the kitchen. Logan clenched his jaw and cleared his throat, holding the tears back.
Rene watched numbly as movers walked into her room and lifted her boxed belongings and carried them out. She tried calling Logan again. There was no answer. She sighed and threw the phone in her purse.
Logan glanced at his phone then he looked back up at the ceiling. He laid back and closed his eyes. A flash of him and Rene together in her room flashed in his mind. He shook his head, trying to erase her from his mind.
"Rene, we're almost ready to go..." Mrs. Watson explained looking into her room, then walking away. Rene opened her phone and called Logan. She waited and waited, her hands trembling. "Logan, pick up." She pleaded. It went to voicemail and Rene sighed, "Logan, I didn't want to do this over the phone... this is why I've been trying so hard to get a hold of you... the movers are already almost done... we're going to be leaving any minute now and I didn't want to leave without saying goodbye...I hope you'll get this and come, I really want to see you..I guess I'll talk to you later. Goodbye." "Rene, you almost ready?" Her dad called from downstairs. She leaned against the wall, "Just a second!"
Walking out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist, Logan dried his hair with another towel. He looked to see his phone was flashing again. He sighed, "God... leave me alone." Finally, he opened it up and listened to the messages. The first three were full of 'please call me's and 'I'm Sorry's. The fourth message caused him to stand up, he looked at the phone then back at the clock. "Shit!" He gasped and dropped his phone.
Rene looked at the sterling silver promise ring that fit her finger perfectly. The words 'forever love' were ingraved into it. She wiped a tear off her cheek and rose, walking out of her room.
Logan sped out of his driveway and down the street. He stopped at a red light and sighed, "Shit... c'mon.." He turned down another street and sped off, dust blowng up from his tires.
"Do you have his adress?" Mr. Watson asked, noticing Rene's numb expression. She slightly shook her head, "Doesn't matter dad... I'm leaving him, remember?" They got into the car and she slammed her door.
Logan gripped the steering wheel, watching the currently red light. "C'mon..change..." He muttered. The light changed to green and he sped off down to Rene's street. He didn't even stop before turning and pulling up her driveway. There were no cars. "No..." He muttered, getting out and running to her front door. He banged on the glossed wooden door, causing it to slightly shake. "Rene!" He called out, panting out of breath. He knocked again, "Rene!" There was no answer. He sat on the porch and rests his mouth against his hands, eyes filling with tears. He bowed his head and cried. She was gone, and he didn't get to say goodbye.
