   One of the officer's radios beeped and he left the room. Logan watched him exit the kitchen and waited for him to return. " Do you think they'll have some kind of bail?" Mrs. Watson asked, looking at the lawyer. "Bail's not necessary." The officer explained coming back into the kitchen, "The charges have been dropped. They're free."  Logan and Mr. Watson exchanged glances as their handcuffs were removed. "Gentleman, Mrs. Watson." The officers politely nodded then left. The lawyer rose, "Well, I'm going to head back to the station and see what the hell just happened." He grabbed his suitcase and left. Mrs. Watson hugged Mr. Watson and they laughed. Logan however, wasn't laughing.

    Rene sat in her car with tears in her eyes. She slightly shook her head as the image of Danny kissing her flashed through her mind. The windshield wipers went back and forth, clearing the rain from the glass. Rene wiped her eyes and started the car. It was time to go home. It was time to face Logan.

    Logan heard the engine of his comarro and he quickly rose. Opening the front door, he looked out to see Rene unbuckling her seatbelt. Ignoring the hard falling rain, he walked outside, shutting the door behind him. Rene looked up and then got out," What are you doing?" "I was going to ask you the same thing only past tense... what did you do?" Logan asked, pausing across from her on the other side of the car. Rene's eyeliner ran down her face because of the rain. Her newly dyed hair clung to her skin. She remained silent and looked away. "What did you do to have those charges dropped?" Logan demanded. Rene looked back at him and her lips trembled, "I did what I had to do." "Which was what?" He asked, " Tell me you didn't drop the charges against him..." "I didn't drop the charges against him." She explained, "He wanted something else..." Logan sighed and held himself up by holding onto the car, "...which was what?" "A kiss." Rene numbly muttered, "He wanted a kiss."  Logan pushed off the car and shook his head, "I don't know you anymore..." He turned to walk away. "I couldn't do it!" She cried, " I couldn't kiss him Logan...." He looked back at her , his breath puffed out in gray clouds. Rene bowed her head and her shoulders shook, "I couldn't kiss him...." "Then how?" Logan asked, stepping towards her. She shrugged, " His lawyer told him to let it go... he said they had enough to deal with now." She covered her mouth and cried, "I couldn't even kiss him to save you and my dad...." Logan shook his head, walked over, and held her face in his hands. "Listen to me..." He muttered, looking into her eyes as rain dripped off his hair, "I love you. You don't need to protect me.... you don't need to do anything to save me... I am here to save and protect you, do you understand?"  Rene slightly nodded, lips trembling as more tears rolled down her face. He pulled her into a kiss as he wiped her tears away. She kissed back, then wrapped her arms around him, holding him as close as you can get to a loved one.
