Somehow, I think I passed out. But when he stopped again I shuddered awake. "Hey, Delena..." I looked up to Adam, (long way up) and asked, "What is it Adam?" Like I had known him all my life, and I was practically married to him. He didn't notice. "Did you hear what Spencer said to me back there?" He said his name like he wanted to get shot. I didn't take notice in it when usually I would practically kill him anyway. But this was Adam. I liked him. I really did.

"No I didn't." Answering was hard. Really really really hard. My voice cracked a bit. When I saw his smile, something inside me jerked. Like I was on a roller coaster or something. That didn't feel right. He shook his head. "He told me that you were...different."

Okay, at this point I was really ticked and Spencer was so close to feeling my fist in his face. But I held my anger in and said, "Oh really..." Adam saw that scowl that I was trying to hide. "I don't believe him, but he said that you...cut." Now, I was going to wear brass knuckles. I was shocked too. How would HE know something like that?! I didn't cut, and even if I did why would he go and TELL someone that he KNEW I liked? I understood that he wanted to protect me, and he particularly didn't enjoy Adam's company, but he didn't have to lie about something like THAT!

Then, all I could think about was getting away without Spencer's "brotherly love". I liked Adam and there was nothing Spencer could do about it no matter what! I was beyond ticked now.

Adam's facial expression changed. His eyes seemed to be smiling. "Spencer just wants to protect you. He told me if I ever hurt you that I would die in seven days."

"He did?" I cracked again.

Adam nodded. "More than anything. You should have seen the look in them eyes. Fire, I swear. Your bro really cares Delena."

"Oh, perfect."

I didn't want him too, but he placed my feet on the ground after that comment. "Besides, how could I hurt you when we are just friends?"

It hurt worse than the lie. I felt as if he had punched me in my gut, and kept going. Adam said it with a smile. Like it couldn't hurt me. But it did.

"Yeh...We're just friends anyway..." I had to hide it. Bitterness again. That's all I could do was hid in my spite.

So we walked, all the way to the basketball court. It was the only shelter from the rain in this big place besides the cabins that we were banned from. My hair was in my face so he couldn't see my pain. Everything today had just killed me. Why would he ever want to keep walking with a dead person?

"Wait!" I hadn't reliezed that he had stopped and was bent over. I was scared that he was throwing up, but underneath his hat, I could see that he was tying his shoe. Running back to him, he looked up. My heart skipped. My adrenaline thrusted. My eyes watered. Everything was going in overdrive. I felt this odd sensation that he wanted to say something. Well duh.

"Hey..." Adam suddenly said.

"Yes?" It was stupid. Stupid with a capital DUMB!

"Would you like to go out sometime?"

If that earlier hour didn't kill me, THAT DID.'
