Hurt & Tears (Part 4)

Creative Created on 6-8-08 Views(55) Story Rating G

"Well, you are in a girls' bathroom," I say only chuckling a little. I still wasn't feeling too good about the whole Casey-thing. Eventually Jeremy calmed down and then we both fell silent, just staring at the silver tiled walls and floor.

He broke the quiet by repeating, "Are you going to be alright?"

Alright? By myself? I doubt it. I bite my lip and blink, tears coming up again. "Jeremy, I don't think -"

"Christy, it's fine. I wasn't planning on leaving even if you thought you'd be ok." At this announcement I smile inside. Jeremy is really sweet, but honestly, what if I'll never be ok? Does that mean Jeremy will never leave me? After five minutes of silence I wonder where Emily went. Then I remember - and almost slap my head. Duh, she's the sister of Casey of the Creep. How could I forget my best friend's own family members?

Suddenly Jeremy stands up. I wonder if he's tired of sitting or tired of being friends with a 16-year-old crybaby. So before he has a chance to leave I look up at him and say, "Thanks, Jeremy."

A puzzled expression crosses his face. "For what? I didn't do anything." He lets out a forced and quite laugh.

"Yes, you did. More than you'll ever know." Man, boys are clueless. I try to smile and am happy to discover that I actually am smiling. He leans up against the wall beside the sink and I sigh inwardly. So he doesn't mind having a crybaby for a friend after all.

Glancing at my watch my eyes widen when I realize it's almost three-thirty. I stand up, walk over to one of the sinks and turn on the cold water faucet. I watch a few moments as the crystal clear water flows down the drain before emerging my hands in it. Quickly I splash my face and, just as my tears are washed away, so are my thoughts about Casey. But I didn't think the water would be that cold; I jumped back.

"Cold?" Though my eyesight is too blurry to see I know that Jeremy is holding back a full, throw-back-the-head laugh.

"Yes," I snap, "It's extremely refreshing. You should try some..." all in one motion I wipe my eyes, cup my hands under the fast-flowing water and splash it at him. He jumps back with surprise but coming to his senses he turns on the faucet at the sink nearest him and, before I can move out of the way, soaks me with it.

I can't stop the scream that escapes my mouth and with wide eyes I slap a hand over my mouth. Jeremy is laughing so hard he slips on the water mess he made.

"Look what you did," I chide with a smile. "Now we have to clean it up," I laugh swiping a few sections of paper towel from its dispenser. We clean the water off the floor and around the sinks in less that seven minutes (it wouldn't have taken that long but Jeremy spilled it all over three of the four sinks as well as the floor and a bit under the stalls.)

Jeremy tosses the last paper towel into the trash can and makes a swish sound. "Well, I'd better be going. Do you need a ride home?"

I grin. I am reminded for the bajillionth time since meeting Jeremy how forgetful guy are. Obviously he forgot that I can drive and that I have my own car; a VW Beetle, shiny and red. Shaking my head I reply, "That's ok." Then, just for good measure, I hold up my car keys and give them a little shake. "I drove here."

He looks at me with an odd look on his face. "And you're sure you'll be ok?"

By now any other girl would probably be so sick of somebody;  even a guy; asking them this question - again. But not me. Not when Jeremy's the one asking it.

Smiling I hold out my arms. "I will be if you give me a hug - a real hug." He grins his boyish grin and steps towards me. In the next few moments I am surprised. His embrace is so - strong. And warm. "See," I tell him smugly, "I told you you can give good hugs."

He laughs. "Just for that -" he squeezes me harder forcing a delighted scream from my mouth. I know for certain that if he does that every time I feel down about the you-know-who problem, I'll be floating on cloud 9 for days to come.
