"Mister?!" I called as I went to open the truck door.         He moaned and I could see blood dripping down his temple.

"Oh my God!" I cried as I reached in cradling the stranger in my arms. As if my embrace could save him.

"I've got to get you help." I told him. "We need to get you out of here and to a hospital."

He moaned again and tried to move. "Don't, your hurt. Let me help you."

The smoke rising from the hood burned my eyes and nose.   I could smell something. It smelled like gas.

"Come on!" I cried as I tried to get him out. The seat belt in my way. I unfastened it and carefully took it off. Hooking my arms around him again I pleaded for him to come with me.

His feet moved, scraping against the floormat. I pulled him with all the strength that I had. Finally, he slid off the seat, one foot hitting the ground. I kept pulling, my arms wrapped underneath his. Trying to be careful of his ribs incase one or both were broken.

His other foot now on the ground, his body suspended in air as I fully got him out of the truck. I began to drag him the fastest I could praying the whole time that I'd have time.

Sweat pouring down the sides of my face now. I had only gotten about two feet with him when a fire burst into life from under the hood.

I pulled harder, his moans, the fire and the sound of his legs sliding on the thick grass were the only sounds I could hear. We got about six feet when a big boom split the air.

I quickly flung him and myself to the ground, covering him with my body. My face pressed against his stomach. After what seemed like forever I glanced up and over to the truck.

Debree litering the ground, ashes floating down from the sky like snow. "We're safe now." I told him with a heavy sigh.

Raising up off of the ground, I went to stand behind him.    "I need to get you to my car." I said as I knelt down, close to his head. Posistioning my hands underneath his back I pushed him forward so that I could get my arms underneath his again. Arms hooked into position I lifted him up and began to drag him.

Walking backwards I slowly made it back to the gap he had made in the fence. It took awhile, but we finally made it. Not wanting to have to drag him across the gravel I layed him down.

"I'll be right back." I said as I rushed to my car. I grabbed open the door and sank into the seat. Turning off my radio I put the car in drive and took off down the road.

Just around the bend there was a dirt and grass packed path heading into the feild so I turned around there. Heading back to the man lying in the feild all I could think was,

"I hope he's going to be ok."

I pulled my car up as close as I could to where the man lay and got out. I ran over to the passenger door, opend it wide and laid the seat down. He let out another moan so I left the seat and went to him.

"Your going to be ok." I told him, wanting to beleive it myself.

Dragging him again I led him to the car. Not knowing how I was going to get this injured man inside. I set him carefully against the open door and lifted him up careful not to hit his head on the door frame, I pushed him back onto the seat.

With one hand on his back, I held him in a sitting position untill I could swivel him around to get his legs into the car. Getting him all the way inside was a problem, but I managed it. I put the seat belt over him and clicked into place.

I closed the door and ran around to the other side and got in. Feeling exhausted I laid my head onto the head rest to catch my breath. I looked over at the stranger, wondering what his name was. He looked about my age, a little older maybe.

Sitting up straight, I put the car in reverse and backed up. I then pulled forward into the opening his truck had made, and turned around. I followed the gravel road to the blacktop and made my way to the hospital as fast as I could.
