When I woke night had fallen and the only light was the small lantern in the carriage.

The man whose name I had yet to discover was sitting much in the same position as before.  His arms were crossed making the veins and muscles bulge.  He was currently gazing out the window at the half moon, a thoughtful look across his face.

It was as if he could feel my gaze on his face when he turned and our eyes met.  I was shocked at the blue of them even in the dark interior of the carriage they seemed to be brighter than normal.

     We’re almost there,” he said.

I nodded and turned away to gaze out the window.  We were blocked by trees on either side of the road.  There was really nothing to see and I soon lost interest.

I turned to see he was still staring at me.

      “What?” I asked slightly angry.

      He smirked and shrugged.

I crossed my arms and stared.  If he could stare then so could I!

After a few moments I looked away.  I didn’t know why and I hated to look away but it was as if his gaze was too intense for me.  Like there was just so much behind it that I just couldn’t hold it.

“What’s your name anyway?” I asked finally because the silence was becoming too consuming for me.

He was silent for a moment as if unsure to give me such ‘valuable’ information.

       “Bayne.  And you are?”

      “Denexa,” I said.

He nodded his head once in acknowledgement.  “You have the name of a witch.”

“Witch’s have specific names?” I asked sarcastically.

“You would be surprised,” he answered.

The silence descended upon the carriage once again, the only sounds being those of the horse’s hooves as they clopped against the ground and the creaking of the rocking carriage.

A few more moments passed when finally he turned his curious gaze from me to the window and he sighed in relief.

“We’re here,” he spoke curtly and he turned to open the door right as the carriage came to a stop.

“Eager much?” I muttered to myself.

I have been gone a long while.  I am ready to be home!” he called from outside.  How could he have heard me?

I stepped from the carriage my body aching from the long carriage ride.

I looked ahead of me and my mouth dropped open in shock.  Ahead of me was a castle.  There was no other word for the humongous stone home in front of me.

Vines were beginning to grow up the sides of the walls and I noticed that the far eastern wall was beginning to crumble.

It was most definitely a castle but if it were not for the few lights that shone through the front windows it would be easy to believe that it had not been inhabited for a very long time.

“This is where you live?” I asked.

He had stopped a few feet away from the large wooden door and nodded.

     “This way!” he called.

I hurriedly followed him catching up as he opened the door.

Inside the door was an older man dressed in…well I suppose it was some sort of suit.  For them anyway.

“Welcome home master,” the man spoke in monotone not looking at the man Bayne.

     Bayne did not acknowledge him.

My brow lifted in inquiry.  Master? Hah! Wasn’t any way he’d ever get me to say that even if he was the one who bought me.

I wanted to growl at that thought.  I sounded like a hooker.

      “This way,” he said.

I debated on standing there and refusing to move to show him that I was not about to become his slave but I was curious. The inside was much different than the outside.

The floor appeared to be solid oak and furniture to match.   Candles aligned the walls and corridors lighting up the rooms.  On the walls hung large tapestries consisting of some gruesome pictures and others not so gruesome.  One of a man half changed from man to a horrible looking beast.

We continued on down the long corridor where the walls were covered with the tapestries.  Another held the image of a wolf howling at the moon.  The next a large wolf like creature but man like.

They began to change.  There was one with a woman standing in what appeared to be a hill at night and a very angry expression across her face but it was the next one that caught my attention.

It was of both a woman and the wolf-man like creature in what appeared to be a battle or dancing but based on the fierce expressions across their faces I don’t think it was a dance.

The woman stood arms caught in the clawed hands of the beast; they rose above her head as if they were both trying to push against each other.

My brows furrowed as I glanced back at the pictures on the tapestries.

Then it hit me.  Luila had taught me all about all the magical creatures along with past and present wars.  How to know what they are…

I gasped and stumbled in shock.  He was quick to react turning quickly and catching me as I fell forward.

His deep blue eyes pierced me and my breath caught.

I had been bought by a freaking werewolf!
